One day you could be working on a Royal or Ministerial visit, the next designing an event such as the Queen’s Birthday Party while simultaneously organising a media trip to the UK. If that didn’t keep you busy enough, any spare time could see you creating digital content that helps showcase all that the UK has to offer in terms of tourism, education and business.

If this sounds like the kind of working week you’d enjoy then joining the Communications Team at the British High Commission Singapore could be the ideal next step in your career.

The Communications Team plays a key role in enhancing the profile and reputation of the British High Commission (BHC) and the UK as a whole. This role, one of three Communications Manager positions, involves partnering different departments within the High Commission to lead, create and deliver the full spectrum of communications activity.

Roles and responsibilities:

Being able to work effectively with heads of departments and their teams in order to plan and deliver strategic communications that help deliver the BHC’s priority outcomes is core to this role. You’ll be working on the prosperity agenda which includes climate and energy, trade and economic policy and science & innovation along with supporting consular prevention work.

You’ll need to be comfortable with high levels of responsibility so that you can design and deliver communications that best support the BHC’s needs. You’ll also need to be able to coach and advise on communications best practice which may include challenging existing thinking at times.

You have scope to define your own priorities but your day to day work is likely to involve:

  • Developing key messages turning them into engaging content
  • Developing and implementing media plans, including cultivating relationships with key journalists
  • Devising and delivering events that have impact
  • Incorporating feedback channels and measures to gauge impact of communications
  • Professional experience that demonstrates skills in a range of communications disciplines (PR, marketing, events, digital, etc.)
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence in suggesting new ideas and challenging senior stakeholders
  • Commitment to working as a team, supporting the other Communications Managers as required
  • High work standards and ability to meet challenging deadlines
  • Experience of working in Singapore or having existing networks within the country
    • A strong events management background will be looked upon favourably
    • University or college degree (preferably in communications and/or marketing)
    • Familiarity with the UK would be an advantage
    • Prior experience relating to climate and energy, trade and economic policy or science & innovation
