View Vacancy - ROK - Defence Section Intern
Main purpose of job:
Every two years the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) sends a Study Group to the Republic of Korea (ROK). RCDS is one of the world’s leading staff colleges, preparing senior military officers and officials from across the world with the skills needed to operate at the strategic level. Working closely with the wider Defence team, the successful candidate will lead on preparation for the visit, finalising programmes and administration, and accompanying the delegation throughout their time in ROK, acting as their in-country support. This is an exciting opportunity to engage with a senior international delegation and to secure excellent access to organisations and individuals of strategic importance from across ROK.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
- Support Defence Programme Officer in producing a final programme for the Tour.
- Undertake research in English and Korean to support the Study Group visit.
- Engage with a range of third parties to finalise logistics, including travel, accommodation, meals and access requirements.
- Produce a comprehensive briefing pack.
- Accompany the Study Group throughout their visit acting as in-country liaison and provide basic Eng-Kor translation where required.
Language requirement: Korean (Native); English (Fluent)
Must be confident and able to engage with senior individuals from within the Study Group and the host organisations at which they will visit. This will be a large delegation undertaking a fast-paced programme – attention to detail will be essential. Whilst many delegates will be from a Defence background, the Study Tour is not focussed on evaluating ROK’s defence posture.
RCDS are interested in the politics, economics and culture which underpin trends in the region, and globally. The successful candidate will require a basic understanding of current affairs in ROK and the region and will be required to use that experience to enhance the Study Group visit.

Accompanying the delegation on their 7 day Tour will afford the successful candidate an excellent opportunity to engage with a range of organisations, inc. the ROK Govt, politicians, universities and think-tanks.
The stipend/allowance for this internship is 60,240 KRW per day.
