Security Guards

Main purpose of job:

  • Protect the lives of occupants, employers, colleagues and visitors to the BHC Office and HC & DHC Residences 
  • Ensure there is no unauthorised access to the BHC office, the compound, residences or any vehicle or equipment in the grounds 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for protecting the lives of employees, colleagues and visitors  
  • Searching of people and vehicles 
  • Follow all security processes and procedures 
  • Access control - making the appropriate security checks and entries in the occurrence book 
  • Completing all necessary information eg occurrence Book, visitor logs
  • Dealing with public as first point of contact to BHC - providing information as instructed 
  • Receiving deliveries - scanning of mail 
  • Operate hand-held radios, including neighbourhood watch radio 
  • Follow line of command - first communications with Supervisor Guard, then CMS (PSM) and if the above mentioned people are not available, then the Deputy High Commissioner (PSO) 
  • Care for security and other equipment i.e. mobile phone, hand-held radio, clock-in system, alarm system, uniforms, etc.  Report any faulty or broken items immediately
  • Ensure guard house and staff room (at Residence) and surroundings are kept clean at all times. 
  • Good customer services skills
  • 2 years previous security experience
  • Basic IT skills
  • Competent level of written and spoken English 
  • Proven security training

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience working at a Diplomatic Mission. There are a wealth of learning and development opportunities available within the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.


Working patterns:

5 X 12 Hour Shift per week

  • The British High Commission do not sponsor visas/work permits except where it may be local practice to do so. 
  • Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
