Main purpose of the job

This is a dynamic entry-level role for an exceptional individual to join Department for International Trade’s (DIT) Innovation and Technology team, based in British Consulate-General Hong Kong, as the Trade and Investment Adviser. Reporting to the Head of Technology and working closely with the Head of Sustainable Innovation, the core focus of the role is to provide the team administrative assistance in the delivering of the UK government’s strategy for economic prosperity. The role will be a key player of a team of 4 who promotes the UK as the ideal country partner for commercial collaborations in innovation, technology, research and development in the areas of smart cities, cybersecurity, information and communications technology and sustainability across Hong Kong, Macao and the Greater Bay Area of Mainland China. Main Responsibilities

Internal administrative assistance

  • Primary duty is to provide general administrative assistance to senior members of the team, including but not limited to data input, meeting and travel arrangements, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database management, procurement management, and performance tracking
  • Undertake market research and build intelligence of trends and developments within the sectors 
  • Collaborate with marketing team in delivering priority events, high level visits, public relations and communications plans 
  • Cover other officers and undertake similar administrative work in other teams and sectors when needed 

External service delivery

  • Respond to both internal and commercial enquiries from the UK, Hong Kong and Macao companies
  • Identify, draft and publish export opportunities on www.great.gov.uk
  • Assist the delivery of Overseas Market Introduction Service, Foreign Direct Investment projects and other business missions by conducting market research, business matching, coordinating visit programmes, organising events, and documenting data and progresses

Based in British Consulate-General Hong Kong, the DIT Hong Kong team offers a fast-paced place to work as the office covers opportunities in Hong Kong and Macau, as well as South China in collaboration with the rest of the DIT China teams led by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for China and Hong Kong.

  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Exceptional interpersonal and language skills with professional and diplomatic demeanour
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to deliver high quality work with pace
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills particularly in the use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • High self-motivation, flexible, resilient and proactive attitude
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Appropriate residence status or a valid working visa in Hong Kong
  • Fluency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin, both spoken and written
  • Broad knowledge of, or demonstrable interest in, the UK and Hong Kong’s Innovation and Technology Industries
  • Experience of administrative support, marketing, event and budget management and/or business development
