Main purpose of job:

The British Government’s Embassy in Washington, DC has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented person to join the Americas HR Hub as a Regional Recruitment Officer.  As a member of the recruitment team you will actively support engaging and attracting potential new members of the team and will assist with their interview and new hire process. You will have a direct impact on helping to build the teams that support the work UK diplomats do across the Americas region which includes North America, Latin America, the Caribbean and South America. 

This opportunity is a rewarding role, which supports and further develops the special relationship between the UK and the US. The HR Regional Team forms an integral part of the global HR infrastructure for staff working in the overseas network for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. The Hub team works in collaboration with the London-based HR Directorate and have an impact on the individuals working at the forefront of international diplomacy in order to make a real difference globally.

In this role, you would be working in a diverse international environment alongside UK diplomats, armed forces personnel and other country based staff operating across the British Government’s network of Consulates and Government Offices in the United States. This network provides a platform for approximately 30 Government departments and agencies to conduct their work in the United States and is made up of over 900 staff with a rich and diverse background, skill sets, and experiences.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Carry out the full life-cycle recruitment process for a wide range of positions across the region to include posting, resume review, screening candidates, scheduling interviews, making offers, etc.
  • Demonstrate high quality customer service while working with Hiring Managers and ensure each has a thorough understanding of our recruitment and interviewing best practices 
  • Manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders throughout the recruitment process by communicating effectively and taking initiative to deliver an effective recruitment
  • Collaborate with Hiring Managers to gain a thorough understanding of the vacancy, recruitment actions and advertising strategy required to have a successful campaign
  • Ensure recruitment processes are meeting business need by following appropriate procedures and completing all assigned tasks within allotted response and completion deadlines defined by our Service Level Agreements
  • Act as a point of contact for candidates throughout the recruitment process
  • Keep impeccable records and documentation of each recruitment process 
  • Work collaboratively as a member of a high functioning team assisting your colleagues and generating ideas for process improvements
  • Work closely and cross functionally with colleagues within the Advisory and Pay & Benefits teams as opportunities arise 
  • Perform other related duties as required

Working patterns: 

This role is 40 hours a week. There is some potential to accommodate a varied working pattern but due to the customer service aspects of this position core working hours will be required.  

The British Embassy and its US Network embraces hybrid working, allowing its staff to typically work from home 2 or 3 times a week.  We are an organization that also recognises the critical value of team work and we embrace and endorse collaboration by ensuring that all staff attend the office flexibly yet regularly.  

Essential on arrival: 
•    1-3 years relevant work experience in a professional work setting required
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•    Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
•    Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines 
•    Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment 
•    Ability to handle confidential employee issues/information and interact with employees in a professional and sensitive manner at all times
•    Proficient in all MS Office applications, especially Word and Excel

Language requirements: 

Language: English, Spanish or Portuguese language skills are a plus 

Level of language required: Excellent
