The trade assistant will assist the trade policy manager with all aspects of the forthcoming trade review between Thailand and the UK, including setting up meetings, gathering evidence, providing notes of all meetings, supporting the trade policy manager on the analysis of policy options and assisting in providing a final report of the trade policy review.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • (Trade Review):  Support the Trade Policy Manager in all aspects of the trade review, including ensuring that the views of British business are effectively captured.  Lead on the setting up of all meetings and consultation processes with British businesses, the British Chamber and the Thai government and assist in the compilation of the final review;
  • (Secondary research): Assist the Trade Policy Manager with secondary research into the various options for a trade agreement between the UK and Thailand. Support the trade manager in providing analysis of the evidence collected during the review and drafting of the final review paper.
  • (Project management):  Project manage every aspect of the review, including ensuring the project management plan and risk register are regularly updated. You will need to interact with a wide range of stakeholders, including British companies, the British Thai Chamber of Commerce in Thailand, and trade policy colleagues in the UK
  • Fluent English (spoken and written)
  • A demonstrable knowledge of, and interest in, trade policy
  • Good communicator at all levels, spoken and written
  • Strong administration and organisation skills
  • Flexible and reactive to new issues and priorities
  • Ability to work at pace and prioritise, managing a sometimes heavy workload
  • Ability to liaise with and manage external stakeholder relationships
  • Experience in completing timely and accurate written information in English
  • IT proficiency – Using MS Office, Outlook and ability to learn FCO systems
  • Ability to travel within Thailand and Asia
  • Keen interest in business and trade
  • Trade policy experience
  • Experience of living in or understanding of the United Kingdom, British people and culture
  • Ability to read, write and speak Thai
