The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the Trade and Investment Promotion and Negotiation organisation for the UK. We promote British trade and investment across the world; we support UK businesses overseas and attract foreign investment to our shores. We have 3,000 staff across the globe in over 100 countries.

 DIT divides the world into 9 regions, each led by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner. The Latin American and the Caribbean Region (LATAC) is led from Sao Paulo. The network is represented in 19 posts with a team of over 140.

 The UK’s Department for International Trade in Ecuador is recruiting a creative and proactive person for the position of intern at the British Embassy in Quito to contribute to our ambition of supporting British businesses to increase their exports to Ecuador.

 In doing so, the Embassy will provide valuable work experience for young Ecuadorean university students, and particularly those who are studying in fields of interest to the British Embassy.  These include international relations, trade and economics.

 The position will report directly to the Director of Trade & Investment in Ecuador. It will start in March 2022, subject to the successful receipt of the required security clearance.

  •       Support the team by carrying out market research in key sectors for UK trade with Ecuador.
  •       Conduct due diligence of Ecuadorean companies.
  •       Produce one pagers in regulatory information and business advice based on the department requirements.
  •       Assist in the organisation of events: develop database, draw up agenda, produce comms material.
  •       Accept designated, business-focus projects to research, propose ideas and solutions
  •       Provide suggestions to management for improving customer service and internal processes. Assist in creating performance reports.
  •       Work as a flexible member of the Embassy to support wider Embassy work as needed and other cross-government activities.
  •       Be an active member of the regional DIT LATAC team: taking part in various regional events, webinars and all relevant staff meetings.

Essential on arrival: Interest in trade and political issues.

 

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities.

University degree with a legal background.

Language: Spanish and English 

Level of language required: fluent both orally and in writing

Availability to work 30 hours per week. Flexibility in working hours according to Embassy’s opening hours:

Monday – Thursday: 08.00 – 16.30

Friday: 08.00 – 13.00
