Main purpose of job:

The successful candidate will be part of a UK Crime and Justice team, providing project administrative support. Working in line with the UK’s overseas strategies will be key, and the ability to work in an ever changing environment where priorities will change daily. The Team is a regional one and most of the team travel regularly throughout East Africa. This role is Dar es Salaam based but the successful applicant may be asked to travel occasionally.

 

Roles and responsibilities :

Key Responsibilities:

Working in a supporting role, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing project related resources and information and supporting the Criminal Justice Advisor and International Liaison Officer in project implementation, management and delivery. The job holder will also be required to provide administrative support to the team.

The main duties include:

  • Act as an initial point of contact for all project-related enquiries.
  • Provide administrative support in monitoring and evaluation of projects, and supporting team members in all administrative aspects of project management, such as managing and coordinating logistics for project related training programmes.
  • Manage and monitor project expenditure and maintain financial and progress reports. Review and process all expense claims for projects, including travel claims.
  • Organise team meetings, events and visits, including drawing up agendas, minutes, programmes, organising transport and hotel bookings.
  • Coordinate extensively with service units and liaise frequently with staff members across other sections within BHC Dar Es Salaam, BHC Nairobi, the region and London.
  • Provide general administrative support to team members.
  • On occasion provide administrative support to the team as a whole.


  • The successful candidate will require strong administrative skills and IT skills (a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word is essential).
  • Have budget management experience
  • S/he should be highly organized, able to take initiative and to work accurately within deadlines.
  • Given the nature of the work, the candidate will be expected to be a good team player and previous experience in project management would be desirable. 
  • Experience of working in a diplomatic environment
