The British Embassy in Cairo is looking to recruit a Driver grade S1.

Main purpose of job:

The main purpose of the Driver’s responsibilities include the provision of a safe, efficient and effective service to Embassy Staff and official visitors when required. This includes professional and safe driving services and providing administrative support service.

The successful candidate should be discreet, courteous, has strong customer service skills and ensures the vehicle fleet is always clean, in good running condition and regular maintenance schedules are followed.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The main duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Transport passengers and supplies safely and punctually, observing local traffic regulations.
  • Ensure that vehicles are fuelled, cleaned and safely maintained.
  • Assist in periodic fuel and kilometre check administration.
  • Ensure the integrity and upkeep of the vehicle journey record sheets.
  • Help passengers at airport with customs and luggage clearance.
  • Assist in VIP visits.
  • Clear personal effects at the airport.
  • Conduct additional duties as directed.

  • A good level of oral Arabic and written and oral English will be required.
  • Previous driving experience, with a high standard of driving skills.
  • Must have a valid driving license and good local knowledge of locations.
  • Previous experience of driving for high-level VIPs/in high-security environments.
  • Good IT skills and computer literate (especially in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).Able to work independently or within a small team.
  • Ability to use your initiative to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Personal discipline is necessary, with a professional approach to duties.
  • Team player who is also capable of working on their own initiative.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to deliver quality service.
  • Courtesy and consideration in dealing with staff and other customers. Able to present a professional image of self and the Embassy.
  • Previous experience of driving for an embassy/ foreign diplomatic mission.

Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of USD 475 per month subject to insurance and tax as per the usual regulations based on a 42 hours per week. However, employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount. 

We offer a competitive package including medical benefits, performance related bonus, recreational facilities, opportunities for job related training & development, etc. This is for a full time employment, on a fixed term basis, initially for one-year. The contract may be extended for up to 3 years, subject to satisfactory performance and on on-going business requirement.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

In addition, we have access to the substantial amount of resources that the Embassy and UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s International Academy provides.
