Syria Office

The British Consulate General Istanbul is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas as is now looking to hire a Office Manager  for the Syria Office section.

The purpose of this role is to co-ordinate and ensure the smooth functioning of the UK’s Syria Office in Turkey, and provide support to the Syria Office Network located across Istanbul, Beirut and Amman.

The job holder will support the UK’s Syria Joint Programme Team. The Joint Programme Team, based in Amman, Istanbul and Beirut, is providing c£50 – 60m of support to Syrian communities to help stabilise and address the causes and consequences of conflict in Syria. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Support Officer for Syria Office Istanbul: Provide administrative and office support to the Syria Office team to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of a busy office. Including:

  • Ensuring that the office is equipped to fulfil its tasks, e.g. IT
  • Maintaining supplies of stationery and equipment;
  • Preparing inductions for new members of staff;
  • Responding to staff/customer enquiries;
  • Developing and implementing new administrative systems, such as record management, as appropriate;
  • Developing and maintaining a contacts database.

Support to Gaziantep Office: Includes support for staff visits, acting as a key liaison with LE staff and processing of office payments;

Budget Management: Recording office expenditure and management of Syria Office Admin Budget.  Including invoice payments;

Liaison officer for Turkey Network: Key point of contact for corporate services and IT service support;

Events coordinator: Organise/manage special events (e.g. official receptions) for the team and assisting with visit programmes for HMG senior officials and staff from across the network 

Support officer: Chevening Scholarship Programme

  • Excellent communication skills, including fluency in English and Turkish (written and spoken);
  • Bachelors degree;
  • Organised and efficient with an ability to work and deliver at pace; 
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision and deliver on tight deadlines;
  • Confident at managing multiple tasks at one time;
  • Excellent team work and leadership skills;
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, in particular MS Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with FCO finance tools, such as Prism or Hyperion would be an advantage;
  • Budget experience would be an advantage;

This is a full-time, temporary contract until 31 March 2019 (with the possibility of extension) for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week. The successful candidate is expected to start as soon as possible.

The annual salary for this position is 61,841.80 TL gross, A2 level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months.
