As part of the Department for International Trade (DIT) at the British Embassy in Mexico, this position will support the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) team to promote investment opportunities for Mexican companies in the UK.

The job entails liaising with key contacts and partners in the UK and Mexico, carrying out business and market research to share commercial intelligence with interested parties, replying to enquiries from Mexican companies about the UK ecosystem, assisting in the delivery of commercial missions and events, as well as keeping track of administrative tasks. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Supporting senior colleagues in advising investors and prospective investors from Mexico to the UK with market reports, connections, advice and general support on internationalising.
  • Conducting business and market research as needed.
  • Monitoring the media/internet for opportunities and bringing relevant information to the attention of colleagues in the UK and Mexico
  • Following up on enquiries from Mexican companies.
  • Assisting in the organisation of activities/events/missions/visits in both, virtual and in person mode.
  • Preparing sector-focused presentations.
  • Identify and contact potential foreign investors.
  • Provide tailor-made market intelligence research for the companies.
  • Collaborating in keeping track of, and updating, databases and ourCRM system (Data Hub) to ensure our pipeline and engagement activities are up to date.
  • Assisting in communication with members of the FDI regional team (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Chile)
  • Supporting with LATAC FDI requests, initiatives, and collaborations.
  • Performing other administrative tasks as required.
  • Ability to research and complete administrative tasks on time and to a high standard.
  • Some translation abilities (English-Spanish).
  • In the process of attaining a Bachelor’s Degree in economics, trade, business administration, finance, statistics or international  relations related subjects; or appropriate business experience.
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English).
  • Proactive and with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Evidence of trade or investment related experience or interest.
  • Knowledge of the UK offer to foreign investors.
  • Experience of both the UK and Latin American business environments and cultures.
  • Proficient user of MS Office (especially Excel) and previous experience with CRM.

Learning and Development Opportunities:

The British Embassy in Mexico City and the Department for International Trade offers a wealth of L&D opportunities, including taking courses, access to online resources and sector knowledge, and mentoring. Depending on availability, the chosen candidate would be eligible to take internal courses to become better acquainted with the UK offer and areas of expertise. 

Working Patterns:

The eligible candidate must be available for a period of 6 months.

Mixed working pattern: 5 hours a day during weekdays negotiable with Line Manager.

Embassy operational times (working pattern should be between these time periods): 
Monday to Thursday: 8:00 - 16:30 Friday: 8:00 - 14:00.

Candidates must be able to live and work in Mexico in their own right. The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
