The British Embassy in Kazakhstan is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic, trade, and consular interests overseas. and is now looking for an Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Mining Lead.

The main focus of the job is to lead the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Mining Sector Campaign, including driving the expansion of UK business trade and investment in the Kazakhstan market (as well as Mongolia and Turkey). The post holder will be expected to have strong leadership skills and play a leadership role in the team and wider British Embassy.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Line management and countersigning officer responsibilities and wider leadership role within the team.
  • Leadership of DIT EECAN’s Regional Mining (Clean Growth) Campaign
  • Informal leadership of a virtual team of staff across its campaign markets (currently Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and Turkey), and their work with DIT HQ’s Mining Sector team and Business Specialist. 
  • To represent DIT and manage relationships up to the highest levels with local and international stakeholders. 
  • To promote opportunities in EECAN’s mining campaign markets to UK companies and to promote the UK’s mining offer in goods and services in the region. 
  • Working with the Regulatory Policy Officer to to gather intelligence of market access / business environment issues. 
  • To identify and monitor major export opportunities arising from project upgrades or expansion programmes and meet associated targets.
  • To lead and direct HMG input to, and influence the outcomes arising from our bilateral Mining Working Group under our annual ministerial Intergovernmental Commission.
  • Produce quality briefing for DIT Director, Ambassador and UK Ministers on the mining portfolio. 
  • Fluency in English and Russian, both written and spoken (minimum of C1 CEFR framework level language*) 
  • An enthusiastic team player with personal drive and excellent customer service
  • Experience of working with international business
  • Experience of leadership and line management
  • High detail-orientation and organizational skills
  • High proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Attention to customer care and respecting deadlines
  • Fluency in Kazakh, written and spoken (minimum of C1 CEFR framework level language*) 
  • Experience of working in the mining sector in Kazakhstan or abroad

This is a full-time position of 5 working days (36 hours net) per week, 12 months contract.

Salary will be USD 3,182 per calendar month (gross). Please note that it is the employee’s responsibility to pay individual income tax.

Employees are entitled to annual leave entitlement pro-rata based on 25 days total per calendar year. In addition, the Embassy observes up to 14 days public holidays marking different Kazakh and UK holidays. The Embassy provides medical insurance for the job holder and two dependants.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a professional background check and security clearance, and is expected to commence employment as soon as possible.
