The British Embassy in Vienna is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an interested and qualified local staff in the DIT Europe Network for a 6 month Flexible Deployment Opportunity in the high-performing DIT Vienna team.

In alignment with Local Staff Policy on Flexible Deployment, the successful local staff candidate(s) would continue to be employed on their home Post's terms and conditions of service and be paid in their home country, returning to their home Post after the fixed period of deployment. DIT Vienna will cover accommodation costs and in-country official travel/expenses and seek agreement on return travel expenses and other additional living expenses, if applicable, upfront.

Position

Over the fixed period, you will work closely with the Embassy's Head of International Trade and Investment, working towards the delivery of the inward investment strategy for Austria.

Through active collaboration and consultation with our target Austrian companies, you will work towards maximising direct investment from Austria to the UK. Ideally, you are familiar with the Inward Investment side of DIT and can consult on opportunities for new and increased investment business in the UK market.

Our focus sector are Advanced Manufacturing, ICT, Life Sciences and Construction but being a small market we need to remain flexible!

You will be supported by a highly motivated Investment Advisor, who understands the business environment well and the DIT network and processes. This is an opportunity to further develop your line management skills; conduct regular progress and performance reviews, build motivation and scope opportunities.

The role will allow for some travel within Austria and possibly surrounding countries and to the UK.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to promote the reputation of the UK as an attractive investment location, through organisation of seminars, company workshops, client presentations and participation at selected trade fairs and exhibitions.
  • Consult Austrian companies and opportunities in the UK.
  • Develop and maintain senior level networks with a range of local partners and businesses.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Project Management and IT affinity
  • Solid understanding of business and global economics across a broad range of industry sector.
  • Experience in working within DIT, in particular within the Inward Investment network (i.e. familiar with the Investment Playbook, IST set up).
  • Passion for continuous learning through business development and client consultation.
  • Well defened interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Drive and initiative to get things done, adaptability and a positive mind-set towards working as part of a broader team.

 

  • German is an advantage but the team can compensate if you don't speak the language, since English is widely spoken throughout the country.
  • Valid driving licence is preferred.

This opportunity is a full-time 6 month deployment position from July to December 2017.

Alternatively, this period could be split into two 3 month deployment positions: 1) July, August and September and 2) October, November and December 2017; thus potentially minimising gaps at home Post.

This is a full-time position of 5 days (35 hours net) per week. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for extra hours worked. Annual leave for this position would be on a pro-rata base (i.e. 1 day in the first month, 2 days second month, etc.) In addition you would be entitled to any Austrian public holidays falling within the fixed period.
