Main purpose of job: 

To lead on external press and communications work for the UK Trade, Economics and Prosperity network in India as well as internal UK Government messaging on bilateral UK/India trade and investment successes.

Duties and responsibilities:

Working with teams across the British Government’s large and diverse network in India, you will develop and deliver strategic communications that support the UK’s economic and prosperity objectives. 

You will own communications for the key DIT sector campaigns, and design and drive cross-cutting prosperity campaigns, exploiting synergies between the various departments, and evaluate activity rigorously.

You will develop content (e.g. core scripts, messaging, press releases, op-eds, rebuttals, digital content), identify good news stories and spot opportunities to align the UK’s strengths with India’s commercial and industrial policy initiatives.  Working to the Snr Marketing Manager you will own DIT/UKTEP’s digital presence in India (Twitter, LinkedIn, website content) and drive engagement by developing innovative, eye-catching, on-brand content. Working closely with HMG marketing and communications teams across India, you will create marketing content.

Managing ministerial visits to India is a major part of the job.  You will brief British ministers, manage their media interactions, and ensure their visit furthers our communications objectives, foreseeing and managing difficult stories.

You will line manage a small team of communications professionals, drawing on resources from across the UK family in India and work closely with sector specialists from the Department for International Trade, Science and Innovation Network, DFID, and economic teams. 

You will have excellent contacts in Indian media, especially senior economic journalists, and understand how to place and manage stories.  You will have the ability to operate at a senior level, developing contacts in industry, niche media and influencers, and Indian government.

You will also liaise closely with colleagues across HMG in India and London, using strong internal communications to promote the India network’s successes.  Working with DIT sector teams, you will develop strategies to help attract British companies to the Indian market.

Reporting to the DIT Senior Marketing Manager, the successful candidate will work for and with both UKTEP and FCO Press & Communications Group colleagues, located in the Press and Communications Group.

Other skills / experience / qualifications:

Essential on arrival:  Knowledge of communications and press strategies and experience of working with media.  A good understanding of trade and investment and policy implications. Confident oral and written communication and interpersonal skill.

 

Language requirements:

Language: English and Hindi

Level of language required: Extensive.

Starting Salary:

For BHC candidates, the LE BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC candidates, Basic Salary will be Rs. 109,080/- per month together with a 12% Provident fund and another 6% special allowance in lieu of Superannuation Fund.
