As part of the British Embassy's Policy, Projects and Strategic Communications (PPC) Team, the successful candidate will have a front line role in devising and implementing a strategic communications plan for the whole of the Embassy.  A vital component of this will be the Embassy’s GREAT campaign where you will lead on all aspects of communicating the campaign, engaging traditional print media including drafting supplements, press releases, placing adverts with radio partners etc. 

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled communicator and influencer.  Your responsibilities comprise communications aspects of bilateral Ministerial visits including preparing a communications plan and working closely with the FCO Press Office in London, creating and maintaining a network of media contacts, planning and implementing campaigns, drafting press releases and drafting articles for the media.  You will act as a press officer giving information to media contacts and accompanying the Ambassador and other senior Embassy staff to press conferences and media interviews.      

You will have line management responsibility for the Embassy’s Scholarships and Digital Diplomacy Officer.  Experience of social media including how to run a digital campaigns is therefore essential.  You will also cover that role during periods of absence.  

The successful candidate must have a strong academic background, relevant work experience and an active interest in, and understanding of, communications (including the web and digital media), as well as UK, Philippine and global current affairs. 

Media - This is a vital frontline position, working with colleagues from across the whole Embassy you will lead the Embassy’s media engagement.  You will deliver high impact messaging to showcase the United Kingdom in the Philippines.  You will maintain the Embassy’s and Ambassador’s high and positive media profile through a well cultivated circle of media contacts.  You will create and implement a communications plan on a weekly basis encompassing Embassy priorities, working with various officers and partners to maximise communication opportunities.  You will also take ownership of and drive forward communication of the Embassy’s GREAT campaign

Digital – To contribute to the effective-management of the Embassy’s digital platforms – Gov.UK website, Embassy’s intranet, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Instagram accounts; you will coordinate with policy officers to help plan and implement innovative Embassy campaigns and communication plans; maintain a high quality of digital output in the face of conflicting demands and priorities when required.

  • Relevant Educational qualifications demonstrating evidence as set out in the core competences identified for this role.
  • At least 6 months experience in media relations, digital marketing/campaigning. 
  • Previous experience in a communication role
  • Experience of communicating campaigns including digital
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) in both English and Filipino – and have the flexibility to communicate with people from various backgrounds.
  • Imaginative, creative and passionate
  • Highly organised with an eye for detail
  • Work effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines, prioritising workloads as required
  • Be able to contribute to a dynamic team
  • A self starter
  • A working knowledge of MS Office, Outlook, Adobe Photoshop, Internet Explorer (or other web browsers).
  • Up to date on communications trends. 
  • Crisis management experience.

The British Embassy offers a competitive compensation package, 36-hour work week, guaranteed 13th and 14th month pay, 20 days paid annual leave (calculated on Pro-rata basis if joined after 1 January), extensive medical insurance, life insurance and access to a guaranteed 5 days of learning opportunities a year. This position is being advertised as a full-time permanent contract linked to the British Embassy’s Local Staff B3 grade.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. You must have work authorisation for the Philippines in order to apply.
