The British High Commission in Wellington is part of a world-wide network of 270 Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are currently looking to recruit on a full time fixed term basis ending 31 July 2017, a person who will assist with a wide range of activities related to the planning and management of high level visits to New Zealand and the scheduled 2017 British & Irish Lions rugby tour of New Zealand.  An immediate start is sought.


Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver sophisticated, modern communications campaigns for upcoming visits and events promoting British interests in New Zealand
  • Web editing for Gov.UK
  • Evaluation and reporting
  • Assist with the coordination and/or management major events for the British High Commission/Consulate General, including organisation and distribution of invitations, coordinating RSVP process, liaison with caterers, hotels and suppliers etc. 
  • Assist with organising/coordinating programmes for official visitors, including liaison with official stakeholders.
  • Assist with meeting and and greeting visitors if required. 
  • Assist with maintaining spend figures for events running costs, and preparing budget estimates and reprofile forecasts in consultation with responsible manager/s.  
  • Assist with raising requisitions as required.  Liaison with suppliers of services to ensure payments follow the necessary processes and are charged appropriately
  • Experience in delivering communications campaigns and events
  • Familiar with digital and social media, willing to learn new skills independently
  • Organises self and work effectively.  Makes best use of resources and maintains high work standards. 
  • Takes responsibility and uses initiative to deliver high quality work. 
  • Handles wide a variety of tasks
  • Works with speed and professionalism, recognising that others depend on them. 
  • Uses information, experience, and judgement to solve day-to-day problems and complete routine tasks.  Thinks creatively to solve problems. 
  • Flexibility to meet the demands of a varied work schedule. Prepared to work additional hours in support of events hosted by the High Commissioner or the British High Commission
  • Experience managing budgets

  • Embraces different ways of thinking and acting and able to treat others with respect and courtesy regardless of work pressures. 
  • Conveys information accurately and concisely.  Expresses own views and contributes to team debate. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a local security clearance to ‘protect’ level.
  • A comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.   
  • Experience with video production and Adobe Cloud a plus.

The salary for this position on a Full Time Equivalent (FTE) basis is NZ$57,000 per annum. 

Appointment is subject to achieving a clean New Zealand Police records check and UK security clearance.

Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. Candidates must have or be able to obtain work authorisation for New Zealand in order to apply.
