The British Embassy is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are currently looking for a HR Support Officer to join our HR team in Corporate Services as a cover for a sabbatical leave. The selected candidate will report directly to the HR Manager.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Implement and coordinate HR processes for our UK Based staff

  • Provide specific advice to staff on protocol admin including accreditation, vehicle registration, healthcare

  • Collaboration with the Community Liaison Officer

  • Maintaining and updating our trackers, HR databases and HR elements of the Embassy’s intranet site

  • Handle daily HR enquiries; cover all aspects of administrative support for new arrivals, departures, on boarding documents for UK based staff, attestations, working on a regular basis with French Administrations, Social Security and FCDO healthcare provider

  • Provide assistance to staff with custom clearances and duty free processes

  • Provide administrative support to UK based staff with children school registrations and fees

  • General HR advice to staff including dependant’s work permits and tailored advice taking into account specific family circumstances

  • Other HR/Corporate Services tasks as and when required.


  • Minimum of 2 years of previous professional experience as HR generalist

  • Fluency at C1 level in English and French (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*)

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Good organisational and time management skills

  • Genuine interest in people/HR matters

  • Discrete with excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work under pressure with a clear focus on timely and concise communications to relevant stakeholders

  • Positive outlook with can-do attitude

  • Previous work experience in an International environment

  • Previous work experience in Global Mobility and relocation

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 12 months.

All appointments are subject to professional background check satisfactory security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to provide a copy of his/her passport or national identity card for all nationalities held, an up-to-date criminal record (casier judiciaire) for recent countries of residence (which can be obtained online at https://www.cjn.justice.gouv.fr/cjn/b3/eje20 ), two written proofs of address (utility invoices and/or bank statements) and two references.
