Main purpose of job:
To provide support to the Political Team’s policy work focused on Brazilian domestic politics and Justice, as well as on administrative and financial duties. This position involves advising on domestic politicis and liaising with the commercial teams, as well as research and communication skills. It also includes work on visits and events
Roles and Responsibilities?
The British Embassy in Brasilia invites applications to join the Political Team in Brazil. This is an exciting and stretching position within the Domestic Politics team which will give the successful candidate opportunities to work with key issues in the United Kingdom and Brazil bilateral relationship.
The successful candidate will advise diplomats and senior managers, and be involved in the diplomatic life of a Mission. They will also produce or contribute to reports and analysis for colleagues in London and around the global network. The main working language of the Embassy is English, so the jobholder should be able to write reports and briefings in both English and Portuguese.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, pro-active and enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal skills in both English and Portuguese. Applicants must also have excellent computer skills, particularly MS Outlook and MS Office packages.
This is a stretching but rewarding position in the British Embassy in Brasilia. Candidates should have qualifications or experience equivalent to degree level. Previous experience in working with domestic politics and the Brazilian justice system is an asset. The jobholder will have experience in reporting and administrative duties, especially in visits and events, with excellent organisation and communication skills. The successful applicant should be able to work autonomously and be a self-starter, able to deal with multiple tasks and priorities. Regular liaison with local contacts and communication with the UK require an excellent command of written and spoken English and Portuguese.
Desirable: Previous experience with visits, research and written reports would be an advantage.
