Main purpose of job:
Supported by the Corporate Services Team in Canberra, this role is responsible for:
The job holder will need to work closely with internal and external stakeholders including the Department of Foreign Affairs Protocol Branch, to deliver high-quality, reliable, information and advice to senior leaders. The job holder requires strong (written and verbal) communication and prioritisation skills, an eye for detail, and an ability to follow procedures.

Role provides an opportunity to demonstrate resource management skills, including compliance with key controls and audit requirements, but does not directly manage staff.
Salary is at $81,583.00 per annum + 11.5% superannuation (12% superannuation effective 01 July 2025)
Appointment is subject to an AFP records check and UK security clearance.
Open to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and partners/ dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Australia.
Staff recruited locally by the British High Commission and its Consulate-General are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Australian employment law. Interstate applicants will be required to meet their own travel and relocation expenses.
Learning and development opportunities (and any specific training courses to be completed):
The Australia network offers a wide range of learning and development opportunities, including job-specific training and broader learning delivered through the FCDO’s International Academy. There are opportunities to job-shadow other staff, and the successful applicant will be encouraged to take part in broader British High Commission initiatives and activities. Staff are supported to develop their own L&D plan tailored to their needs and interests.
Some job-specific training is mandatory and will mostly be delivered through on-line e-learning courses. Some training may require flexibility about usual working hours to accommodate a later or earlier than usual start/finish.
Working Patterns:
Monday – Friday 0900 – 1700 at BHC Canberra. British High Commission is able to support some flexible working options where this is compatible with operational demands. Any flexible working arrangement should be discussed and agreed with the hiring manager.
The overall package includes the standard 14 days of public holidays that the UK in Australia Network works to as well as 22 days annual leave.

The applicant will be expected to work mostly from the British High Commission in Canberra during normal business hours. Some flexible working options can be considered, but this position would not be suitable for remote working.
Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment and security checks. Staff who are locally recruited by the British High Commission are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to Australia local employment law.
