Main purpose of job:

UK Visas and Immigration’s (UKVI) vision is to be a world-leading immigration service, working for a safe and prosperous United Kingdom. UKVI’s Asia Pacific (APAC) operations are mostly based at its decision making centre at the British Embassy Beijing.  It also has staff in five other locations across China and the wider region and works with a commercial partner to provide a visa service in multiple locations across APAC.  China is UKVI’s largest overseas market and our aim of providing a world-class customer service to Chinese applicants is of vital importance to HMG’s wider prosperity agenda.

Jobholders will undertake a range of tasks in connection with the processing of visa applications.  We are looking for flexible people, who work well in a busy environment. It is extremely important that jobholders are adaptable and show a willingness to undertake a variety of tasks operating to challenging targets. These tasks may include a combination of those detailed below.

Roles and responsibilities:

Typical tasks will include a variety of:

  • Completing accurate data entry to prepare visa applications for decision making
  • Contacting applicants, commercial partners and/or counterparts globally in support of the decision-making process
  • Printing visas and dispatching printed visas and decisions to Visa Application Centres across the globe
  • Ability to work effectively against demanding targets
  • Ability to use initiative in solving problems
  • Familiarity with Microsoft applications (Windows operating system, Office applications)
  • Work experience in a similar environment or a similar role may be an advantage

This is a fixed-term role until 30 Sep 2022.

A full induction and role-specific training + Mentoring will be provided.

Five working days a week with two consecutive days off. It is possible that weekend overtime might be available.

External Non-Chinese National Candidates: Due to local Government measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, including strict entry restrictions, applicants who are non-Chinese nationals are likely to face significant obstacles when seeking residence permits, or travel into China. We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan, etc. The gross starting salary (before all deductions) for this position is RMB 11,272/ month for Mainland China Nationals and an abated monthly salary of RMB 15,789/ month for LE Expat and spouses/ partners (all nationalities) of diplomats who are ‘W’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria.
