The British Embassy in Tbilisi is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a full-time, permanent Technical Officer.

The main purpose of the job is ensuring that Embassy’s estate platform is efficient, compliant and fit for purpose. The Technical Officer (TO) is part of the corporate services team and estate (Embassy/Residence building of £17m value and x18 post hiring’s) ensuring safety and compliance to the required UK standards by using professional expertise and competence in maintenance area.

The TO will report to the Corporate Services Manager and works closely with technical works group, UK-based staff, landlords and Residence Manager to plan and execute the overall management of properties and services.

The Technical Officer will be responsible for day-to-day technical supervision of x 2 A1 Technical Assistants and x 2 contractors.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Management (office and residential) – (80%)

  • Supervise Embassy’s technical team of 3. Structure and prioritise preventative and reactive technical works and allocate tasks accordingly;
  • Operate ‘Helpdesk’ inbox by regularly reviewing maintenance works requests and responding to the customers, determining priorities and appropriate standard procedures in conjunction with other members of the technical team;
  • Ensure that preventative maintenance of equipment and plant in office building and residential estate is completed as required and all the checks are recorded and filed on SharePoint site;
  • Ensure that all maintenance operations, safety checks and routine tasks are carried out in timely manner in accordance with relevant quality specifications and documented according to the established policies and procedures;
  • Organise preventative and reactive maintenance visits from UK companies if required;
  • Lead, manage and co-ordinate projects of upgrading of new post hiring’s to the required H&S standards through prioritising works, supervising contractors, presenting options on most cost efficient solutions and taking responsibility for ensuring the projects meet deadlines;
  • Organise procurement of required spares and source casual labour for jobs where assistance is required to complete works timely;
  • Closely monitor plants operations, identify faults and troubleshooting to minimize disruption to post’s operations.

Health and Safety (20%)

  • Implement and observe Embassy’s Health and Safety policies and procedures;
  • Promote and embed H&S culture within the estates team as well as across the Embassy;
  • Oversee and implement recommendations in annual H&S audit to ensure compliance.
  • Fluent English and Georgian;
  • Professional Qualification in Mechanical or Electrical field or at least 3 years of experience in mechanical/electrical/engineering field or any equivalent combination of training and experience;
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures;
  • High degree of technical ability;
  • Ability to interpret engineering/technical drawings;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong time management and organisation skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Understanding the requirements of BS7671:2008 (2011) and its application to electrical installation;

This is a full-time, permanent position (subject to 3 month probation) for 40 hours (Gross) per week. Working hours for the position are 09:00-17:00, Mondays to Fridays. Start date  is beginning-mid January. The British Embassy in Tbilisi is a supporter of work/life balance and uses flexible working to support this. Occasional working from home or job sharing are possibilities.

The gross monthly salary is 3,711 GEL. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax and state pension contributions required by local law. Salary is be abated for those employees who are not eligible for payment of income tax in Georgia.

The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background check and security clearance.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Tbilisi are subject to local Terms and Conditions of Service.
