The British Embassy in Dublin is part of a world-wide network, representing UK political, economic and consular interests overseas, and is now recruiting for a Campaigns and Internal Communication Manager to cover a maternity leave.

The Communications team at the British Embassy work across all areas of the Embassy, for all UK government departments and for the UK’s Devolved governments. This position forms part of the Communications team, working to promote and build upon the close ties that the UK has with Ireland. 

The role will lead on the communication aspect of our campaigns, working with policy colleagues on subjects ranging from bilateral issues to trade promotion and VVIP visits.  They will ensure that we maximise media opportunities, working collaboratively with our partners across Ireland, and the UK. 

The role will supervise our digital/online engagement and line manage our Digital Specialist and our Europe, NI and Digital Comms Support colleague, ensuring that our communications is consistent and coordinated.   

The jobholder will need to be prepared to work flexibly, with occasional out of hours duties (time off in lieu will be given) and to occasionally travel regionally and overseas. 

All staff are required to contribute to the wider corporate activities of the Embassy and to support high-level visits as required. 

 

Main duties and responsibilities: 

Campaigns

  • Design and deliver strategic communication element of the public diplomacy plan, in line with Embassy objectives.

  • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners around campaigns to maximise opportunities for reach.

  • Stakeholder mapping, audience insight and evaluation of campaigns.

  • Media management for events.

  • Communication representative on the Embassy programme board.

  • Tailoring UK Comms campaigns for Ireland, working x-Whitehall Comms colleagues.

Internal communication

  • Advising senior management on content and delivery.

  • Promoting corporate messages on behalf of the Embassy.

  • Create and deliver communication tools to enhance communications throughout the Embassy.

  • Help to devise and deliver communications L&D.

Supervision and cover for media monitoring and reporting (in absence of AOs)

  • Transcripts, monitoring of Irish media and social media channels.

  • Forward planning including media grids.

  • Identifying new channels and platforms for communication.

  • Crisis Planning and Crisis Communication.

  • Deputise for Head of Press and Communication and leading in their absence.  

Staff Management

  • Managing and covering for the A2 Digital Specialist and A2 Europe, NI and Comms support in their absence.

  • Managing the team and covering in absence of the Head of Press and Comms.

  • A self-starter, able to work collaboratively with colleagues and who can own their area of work with minimal supervision. 

  • Understanding of Irish media landscape.

  • Experience of planning and implementing the communication element of campaigns.

  • High standard of written and spoken English (minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*).

  • Communications based educational background and/or relevant work experience.

  • Experience of working with media in Ireland.

  • Web design and editing. 

  • Journalism or communications/marking degree.

  • Previous experience of using social and digital media in the workplace.

The successful candidate will be subject to a six-month probationary period and will be employed on a fixed-term contract basis for a minimum of 9 months for a maternity cover, but extendable until the return of the jobholder. The appointment is subject to satisfactory reference and security checks.

All L&D required on FCDO/UK government standards and systems will be provided.
