MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Communications, Campaigns and Events Manager will play a central role delivering the British Embassy’s Public Diplomacy activity planning and delivering events and campaigns approaches to amplify and underpin our policy work, and achieve our cultural diplomacy objectives.

The successful candidate will work as part of the British Embassy's Public Diplomacy Team, closely with the Deputy Head of Mission (Deputy Ambassador) and routinely with Her Majesty’s Ambassador to help promote the UK values and Embassy objectives through organising external events which showcase UK values, Embassy activity and British culture. The candidate will have relevant work experience in organising and planning events, communicating with public and an active interest in Philippines and global current affairs. She or he will enjoy being in a high profile environment with opportunity to work with senior politicians, influencers, journalists, activists, and figures across public life. There is some (paid) out of hours work required, so applicants should be willing to fully engage with all aspects of Embassy life and activity.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role would suit someone who is creative, energetic, and a very good organiser and communicator. Thinking ahead, planning activity, working with external and internal stakeholders will be essential activities. You will need excellent judgement and the ability to grasp detail while remaining focussed on the big picture. The role holder will be a central to all parts of the Embassy’s work, understanding the full scope of the UK in Philippines, and have significant autonomy and trust to turn ideas into action, while being a very strong team player across all parts of the Embassy.

  • Propose and organise high impact events and campaigns by taking a proactive lead and working collaboratively with others in the Embassy on planning and delivery.
  • Produce/commission print, digital and multimedia materials (brochures, videos, collaterals, digital PR) to provide information to the general public, targeted audiences or Embassy staff (for internal campaigns).
  • Work closely with the Ambassador and other members of the Public Diplomacy team, as well as external contacts, eg British Council, British Chamber of Commerce, businesses etc. to deliver events and campaigns.
  • Coordinate the delivery of major Embassy events (e.g. Queen’s Birthday Party) to ensure professional planning and a very high level of event delivery and implementation.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, partners and all parties ahead of during and after events.
  • Work with our Chevening Scholarships Officer to deliver events and campaigns to promote the scholarships and actively engage with scholars and alumni to build profile and impact.
  • Manage Embassy communications received to UK in Philippines on digital channels, e.g. Facebook, and emails, responding in a professional style in coordination with relevant teams.
  • Support the Digital Diplomacy and Communications Officer in monitoring and analysing public correspondence and digital media interaction.
  • Work with the Head of Public Diplomacy to create impactful campaigns, across different channels, using diverse and effective networks in traditional and social media.
  • Identify opportunities for the Ambassador, diplomats and representatives of the British Embassy to engage publicly to enhance the UK’s reputation and outreach.
  • Be part of the Embassy crisis preparation team, undergoing learning and practice of how to conduct embassy communications, in particular digital communications, in a crisis situation (e.g. a political situation, or an event such as a natural disaster that impacts a lot of British nationals).
  • Deputise for the Head of Public Diplomacy
  • Coach, develop and support the Digital Diplomacy and Communications Officer

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS /:

You might not necessarily have worked in an embassy or foreign policy environment to succeed in this role. We encourage a broad range of backgrounds and experience in communications and public affairs.

  • Imaginative and creative, preferably with extensive experience in managing big events and occasions.
  • Highly creative and organised, with an eye for detail; able to plan and deliver seamless events.
  • An organiser and logistical thinker – able to think, plan and perfect every aspect of an event or occasion.
  • Able to collaborate and coordinate, bringing together different teams and groups to work as one.
  • Ability to plan and implement campaigns and produce communications materials; monitor and collect performance data for post-campaign evaluation.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) in both Filipino and English - confidence to speak with senior members of the Government, FCDO and others.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to build a wide network of external contacts
  • Digital savvy with excellent writing and content marketing skills.
  • Able to work effectively and productively with minimal supervision.
  • Work efficiently to meet deadlines, prioritising workloads as necessary.
  • Willingness to collaborate with team members and contribute to a developing team.
  • Knowledgeable of MS Office, Outlook, Adobe Photoshop, Internet Explorer, Video Editing software
  • Flexibility and willingness to help on corporate and cross team projects

The British Embassy offers a competitive compensation package, 36-hour work week, guaranteed 13th and 14th month pay, 20 days paid annual leave (calculated on Pro-rata basis if joined after 1 January), extensive medical insurance, life insurance and access to a guaranteed 5 days of learning opportunities a year.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
