The British Embassy in Uzbekistan is part of the world-wide UK diplomatic network working on behalf of British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Receptionist.

The jobholder will provide expanded front line activities, retaining a high level of customer service and maintaining the appropriate protocol procedures. The successful candidate will also be responsible for ensuring an efficient assistance on consular issues in the capacity of Deputy Pro-Consul.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate the switchboard, acting as the first point of contact for all visitors and callers;
  • Maintenance and research of  Embassy’s correspondence system;
  • Provide guidance on and carry out local travel arrangements, including visa procedures, for staff and their visitors;
  • Facilitate the staff’s official trips liaising with the Embassies, local authorities and other relevant organisations;
  • Provide advice and guidance to British Nationals and other eligible members of public when dealing with consular cases in line with consular services rules; 
  • To advise on policy and process applications for accreditation of newly arrived UK-based Staff (UKBS) and their families as well as extensions of accreditations upon expiry (annual basis);
  • To advise on policy on temporary residence registration for guests and visitors (official and private) through effective liaison with responsible department in the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and to process applications;
  • Researching, interpreting and following up changes in relevant legislation and being the first point of contact on these issues to the UKBS explaining procedures and rules and advising further actions;
  • Maintain links with the MFA’s Department for Diplomatic Services (local equivalent of Protocol Dept); 
  • Draft Note Verbales to the MFA on corporate issues as required, including on local staff’s labour contract documentation, and ensure follow up on the issues concerned;
  • Administration, despatch and receipt of Unaccompanied Airfreight Policy (UAF) and diplomatic unclassified bags, including monitoring, evaluating and reporting service levels;
  • Act as back-up to Personal Assistant of Her Majesty's Ambassador (HMA);
  • Act as back-up Receiver on PRISM.

Resources Managed (Staff and Expenditure):

  • Two S3 grade staff.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree;
  • At least one year of experience in office administration area;
  • Proficiency in English, Russian and Uzbek languages, both oral and written;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders;
  • Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills, with high attention to detail;
  • A self-starter that can work well both individually and in a team;
  • Flexible and reliable attitude and a customer-focused approach;
  • IT-literate, specifically in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working in multicultural team;
  • Experienced in using ORACLE systems;
  • Staff managerial skills.
