UKDEL (UK Delegation to NATO)

The United Kingdom’s Joint Delegation to NATO (UKDEL NATO) is the vital link between the UK Government and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Its principal roles are to promote British interests in NATO and to keep UK Ministers and Government Departments informed about NATO discussions. The Delegation is now looking for a Deputy Business Manager.

The successful candidate will be based within the Business Management Team. As one of two Deputy Team Leaders, the main aspects of the job are to become the focal point for all visits to NATO by UK Ministers and their teams, providing budgetary support to the delegation, induction support to new members of staff as well as supporting the Team Leader in project management of the Delegations move to the New NATO Headquarters.

The role would suit a proactive individual with experience in team support and willingness to take on the challenge and opportunity of living and working in another country.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Visits Officer - Organise 5 logistical and bilateral programmes for the Foreign and Defence Ministers supporting the UK's input to Ministerial meetings to the Minister's satisfaction including the upcoming NATO Summit to be held in Brussels;
  • Produce a monthly forecast & outturn for DHM and Team Leaders, highlighting under and over spend to ensure EY allocation is met, including long term 4 year forecast;
  • Support TL in managing the maintenance of the new Delegation Space (through FMCU and LSO). Support TL where required in transition to new Delegation space including the Move Contract with Transition Office. Act as NFO-SO in absence of TL authorising and arranging site access as required and reacting to emergency calls whilst the New HQ is being prepared for handover to NATO;
  • Take a key role on induction for FCO/MOD starters, collaborate with teams to adapt a personal programme for new colleagues. Support TL in Recruitment and Succession Planning;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English;
  • Clear and effective communication skills;
  • Good team working ability;
  • Ability to work with contacts and colleagues at all levels;
  • Proven organisation skills with the ability and flexibility to deal with pressure and fast paced work;
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook). 
  • Keen interest in current affairs and international relations;
  • Previous budget experience;

This is a permanent full-time contract for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week.

The monthly gross salary for this position is € 3,681.33B3 (L) level (The British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium salaries are not subject to annual indexation).

Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.

The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.
