The British Diplomatic Missions in Italy are based in Rome and Milan and are part of UK worldwide Government network, representing British political, commercial, economic and consular interests overseas. Within this organisation, the Department for International Trade (DIT) is recruiting a highly motivated Trade Adviser to join its team, either in Milan or in Rome, to promote export opportunities for UK industry in the fashion, food & drink (F&D) sectors. The jobholder will report to the Head of the life sciences, consumer goods and export growth team and will work closely with colleagues in the Department for International Trade in Italy, the UK and wider Europe as well as other sections based in the Consulate in Milan and the Embassy in Rome. 
The jobholder will ensure the development of a dedicated strategy to drive the sustainable export growth of UK suppliers across fashion, food and drink sectors as well as supporting the head of the unit in the team management. 

Main roles and responsibilities:

  • Run progress reports and desktop audits on work orders – by accessing the Mitie Helpdesk and online reporting tool
  • Work with the Regional Contract Managers (EO) and the Head of the UK-Based Support Team to review and draft welcome information and other staff communications
  • Participate in the working group on staff residential accommodation to collate feedback on the staff residential experience
  • Plan and book Generation 3 site visits for the Estate Operations Generation 3 site vists, liasing with FCDO colleagues at the proposed visit posts.
  • Undertake visits to the local Tax office to process customs documents
  • Provide adhoc access to Head of Mission residential properties and supervise maintenance contractors 
  • Assist in collating and storing documents on Teams
  • Provide support to the Head of the UK-Based Support Team on the vaccination programmes (Covid-19 and seasonal flu) for staff and dependents
  • Calculation of healthcare claims for UKB officers and dependents
  • Management of the buddy scheme for UK-Based officers
  • Provide cover for other members of the team during busy periods and absences
  • Any other duties as directed by the two team leaders
  • Well organised with the ability to handle a variety of tasks and prioritise accordingly
  • Proven ability to work successfully in a team
  • Excellent customer service skills and a professional manner
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and French or Dutch
  • Proven MS Office skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Working knowledge of MS Teams
  • Understanding of Fashion, food and drink sectors;
  • Knowledge and experience in technology and clean growth sectors.

This is a full-time temporary position for a 12 months contract, with possibility of renewal, graded EO according to the FCO grading structure. The monthly gross salary is Euro 2,929.00 paid monthly 14 times per year including € 10.33 EDR paid 13 times per year, with double salary payments in June and December. If working less than a full calendar year, the additional salary payments will be pro-rata.
Working hours are 35 hrs per week with some flexibility allowed.

The appointment is subject to security clearance and the successful completion of a five months probationary period. All staff employed by the British Diplomatic Missions in Italy are subject to Italian income tax rate deductions (IRPEF). However the administration of these tax payments will vary depending on nationality.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Italian State Social Security Scheme. Staff recruited locally by British Diplomatic Missions in Italy  are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Italian employment law.

Visa / Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Italy and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
