The British Embassy in Copenhagen is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Maintenance Officer.

Reporting directly to the Estates Manager, your role is focused on support for the Embassy’s Estates work. You will be responsible to assist in routine maintenance, repairs and minor project works, ensuring that all facilities/assets, Offices, Residential Accommodation, Amenities and Grounds are operated, maintained in good standards and in accordance with UK Health and Safety Standards, whilst working with all internal stakeholders and external contractors as necessary. The Embassy is the UK´s representation in Denmark and need to be kept presentable and in good working order.  

You are preferably skilled in construction work either as an electrical, plumbing, carpenter, painter or mason. If no formal education then you must have extensive knowledge of these crafts, and willing to learn and work outside ones skilled trade. 

You need to be able to work in a team and be a team-player but you must also be able to work on your own initiative and be proactive and positive. See the problem and fix it, before it becomes an issue.   

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine maintenance tasks including repairs, re-painting, decorating / furniture assembling, getting accommodation ready for staff; 
  • Basic electrical and plumbing work, hang a lamp up, change a kitchen tap, etc.;
  • Moving and removal of furniture for accommodations and offices;
  • Meeting room set-up and break down;
  • Maintaining office equipment and supplies;
  • Driving duties to procure items from local suppliers, etc.;
  • Clearing snow and leaves from compounds; some cleaning duties as allocated by the Estates Manager;
  • Liaising with external stakeholders (e.g. electrician, plumber, other tradesmen on work tasks);
  • Completing Health and Safety checks and procedures;
  • Work with existing Embassy systems (e.g. databases and spreadsheets and implement work according to agreed standards and procedures);
  • Any other relevant tasks.
  • Good level of English (B1 level or above under the CEFR*) and Danish (minimum B1 level*).
  • Experience in a craftsman trade, skill in building maintenance or as a Handyman on a professional level;
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with competing priorities;
  • Good IT skills including the full Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software.
  • Trade qualification (e.g.: electrician, carpenter, plumber, etc.);
  • Full driving license with a clean record;
  • UK Health and Safety Standards;

This is a full-time permanent contract of 35 hours net per week.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.

The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for Denmark in order to apply.
