MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

As part of the 2021 Global Britain Integrated Review which elevated the importance of UK defence policy in the Indo Pacific, UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) is re-establishing a permanent Defence Section in British Embassy Manila to replace the Non-Resident Defence Attaché (NRDA), operating from Brunei. 

The Defence Section of 3 staff will be responsible for: creating and strengthening key relationships with the Armed Forces of The Philippines (AFP); building defence capability through provision of MOD International Defence Training (IDT); identifying defence sales opportunities; and supporting HMA Manila and the One HMG Country Business Plan in all aspects of Defence Engagement (DE) including High Level and Senior Level International Engagement (HLIE/SLIE) visits between The Philippines and UK.

The main purpose of the job is to provide a safe and courteous transport service and other administrative support work for the Defence Section in Manila.

The driver will be line-managed by the B3(L) Assistant to the Defence Attaché.

Core duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide a flexible driving service to the Defence Section often requiring overtime, early and late work, weekend work and travel with extended stays throughout the country.
  • Daily check of the vehicle e.g.: tyre pressures, hydraulic fluid, oil, radiator, and battery level.
  • Maintenance of vehicle and paperwork in accordance with MOD regulations.
  • Keeping the vehicle clean and serviceable at all times.
  • Reporting any defects and assisting to ensure their resolution.
  • Keeping an accurate record of all journeys.
  • Ensuring the safety and security of the vehicle and passengers in your care.
  • Provide support during trips, including planning routes, arranging visits and assisting with visiting teams as required.
  • Support Embassy Teams with logistics and other work, e.g., scanning invoices, photocopying, shredding, faxing and portering when required.
  • Assist Defence UK based staff with personal administration in order to operate effectively in The Philippines including assistance with personal vehicles.
  • Other office tasks as assigned

RESOURCES MANAGED:

  • N/A
  • Possess a clean police record and a full clean valid driving licence
  • Minimum of 3 years driving experience
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, in person, on the phone and in writing.
  • Good knowledge of the roads and location of government offices in Manila and main roads to other parts of the country.
  • Physically fit with excellent eyesight.
  • Good driver customer service protocols and proactive organisational skills.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical skills needed to maintain vehicles in a roadworthy condition

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A good level of English both spoken and written 
  • Fluent in Filipino (written and spoken)
  • Formal Training as an official driver
  • Experience in driving for international organizations and VIPs
  • Ability to use Microsoft 365 tools
