Commercial Diplomacy

Main purpose of job:

To provide research and economic analysis support to the Economic, Climate and Science team, especially working with the economic and trade policy officer and DIT team.


Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

1. Research and reporting: Assist the team with research on trade policy, market access issues, and economic policy reforms that will have an impact in the country’s economy at national and local levels.
Assist in the collection and organization of  country statistics in order to contribute to economic reporting and economic developments in Colombia.
Research and provide relevant information on UK, as well as Latin American and other regional economic news and policies that could impact Colombia. Help provide sound political economy analysis. 


2. Events: Support to the organisation, planning and delivery of official events and visits, including the preparation of agendas, meetings and all related logistic activities including quotes, catering, venues, invitations. 


3. Admin: Support the economic and trade policy team to deliver administrative tasks related to budget and payments.


4. Communications: Coordinate and work closely with Press and Public Affairs team in order to support the production and release of a commercial, economic and environment bulletin. 
Continous relation to promote events, programme outreach, visits, and other Economic, Climate and Science areas of interest. 


5. Attend and report from external economic and policy meetings, to support other members of the team.


6. Work closely with different areas of the Embassy (Prosperity Programme, different ODA Funds, Political team and Departament of International Trade team) in order to ensure good coordination and optimise the impact of reporting.


7. Any other task that might be required as part of the section activities. 
 

Essential on arrival:

100% bilingual and good knowledge of Microsoft Office, possess a successful track record working on independent research projects and managing databases, preferably enrolled in a program with at least 50% economics content, or have a strong background in economics.

The successful candidate must be in the last year of undergraduate studies in Economics or  enrolled in a program with at least 50% economics content, or have a strong background in economics. It is mandatory that the candidates are students with availability of at least 6 months before their graduation to complete the internship. The internship must be a requirement for obtaining the degree.

Must have the legal status to live and work in Colombia


Language requirements: 
Language: English and Spanish

Level of language required:  Proficient in both English and Spanish / English B1 and C1 (under the CEFRL or equivalent)

Desirable:

Well organised, good team work, excellent customer services and providers management, access to economic databases. Manages stata or SPS.
