The British Embassy in Paris is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. It is also part of the UK’s France Network (including offices in Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseilles and representation to international organisations in Paris (OECD and UNESCO) and Strasbourg (CoE).

The UK Border Force operates immigration controls in Northern France and is now looking for an Administrative Officer The post holder will be based in Calais but may also be required to work at other juxtaposed locations, currently Dunkerque in order to cover any absence of the current incumbent. The post holder will assist the local management with all administrative aspects of running an immigration control, particularly in matters of accommodation, contracts and liaison with local authorities.  

By virtue of continually changing requirements, the following list of job requirements is not exhaustive and is intended as an overview guide to the requirement for adequate provision of administrative support functions to the juxtaposed controls.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for correct functioning of office equipment, adequate provision of stationery, reporting accommodation and health and safety issues;
  • Liaison with Border Force South East & Europe offices in the UK in matters of statistics, Finance, Transport, Accommodation, Health & Safety, procurement and information technology;
  • Support of local management by liaison with external agencies and suppliers, both in France and in the UK. These are likely to include local port authorities, local police and carriers;
  • Provision of administrative support in order to facilitate efficient operation of control points to include monitoring of equipment and supplies filing;
  • Attendance at meetings when required both in France and UK. That will require travelling between the ports and to the UK;
  • Monitoring work carried out by contractors and escorting them on site;
  • Organise port secured access for Border Force members of staff and contractors;
  • Support the work of the Business Support Team as a whole.
  • Fluent English and French;
  • IT skills such as : Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Explorer;
  • Excellent customer facing orientation, organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to forward plan and coordinate activity among a range of stakeholders;
  • Applicants should be aware that duties may require visits to other offices within the EU and therefore a clean current driving licence valid in France and the United Kingdom is essential along with a valid passport.

  • Experience in a busy and changing operational work environment.
