View Vacancy - Defence Section Executive Officer (GRC24.343)
The British Embassy in Athens is part of a world-wide network, representing a wide range of British interests overseas from political, through Economic, consular and Law Enforcement. The Embassy is now looking for a Defence Section Executive Officer to undertake a fast paced, dynamic and varied role. The successful candidate will work as part of a small team covering the full range of UK Defence activity in Greece. This includes: enabling access, basing and overflight for current and future UK Military operations and training in Greece; opportunities to promote the UK Defence industrial growth agenda; cooperation and engagement. The role will adapt over time, and the successful candidate must be willing to regularly shift focus across the Defence portfolio as the need arises.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Horizon scanning on Defence and Security matters.
- Contribute to the Defence Section’s reports and returns back to the UK.
- Arrange permissions (Diplomatic Clearances), logistical support and the administration for UK Military units and personnel (Air, Land & Sea) transiting and visiting Greece.
- Lead and support UK Military Forces engagement in exercises and training.
- Plan and organise UK Defence related events and ceremonies, liaising with the UK & Greek authorities at the highest levels.
- Maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders.
- Support the planning & coordination of (VIP) visit programmes.
- Contribute to office administration including information management, correspondence, organising meetings, diary and stakeholder management.
- Act as first point of contact when dealing with Defence Section enquiries and correspondence.
- Participate in the on Call Duty Roster as required.
- Fluency at C1 level in English according to CEFR framework*, or equivalent.
- Ability to work as part of a close-knit team, possessing strong interpersonal skills and willingness to adapt to team ethos.
- Excellent communication skills; comfortable communicating orally and in writing at all levels and in unfamiliar situations.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, ability to manage competing priorities.
- Ability to build, maintain and develop relationships with internal and external partners.
- Experience in administration.
- Knowledge or prior experience in Defence or International relations.
- Proficiency using MS tools (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Teams).
- Writing & research.
- Experience in arranging events and visits.
- Experience in Government or similar international organisations.
This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, permanent contract.
The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, 24 days annual leave entitlement (given pro-rata to staff on fixed-term contracts and/or staff working part-time), a training package and flexible working opportunities. Monthly salary for this position is EUR € 2,581.33 gross. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will be welcomed into the wider team in the British Embassy in Athens and will be encouraged to play a part in the corporate life of the Embassy.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background and security clearance.
The successful candidate must hold one of the following passports: UK, US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy is subject to terms and conditions service according to Greek employment law. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Greece and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
