Invest Northern Ireland has a vacancy for a Part Time-Trade and Investment Officer, Grade A2 (L) position, based at the British Embassy, Doha.

Background and Objective:

As part of the Department of the Economy in Northern Ireland, Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI, www.investni.com), working with international stakeholders and partners, is driving the transformation of Northern Ireland into an innovative, competitive and knowledge-based economy. 

In Qatar, our new International Business Office opened on 16 April 2017.  The office is located within the UK Department for International Trade in the British Embassy and fully supports the UK Government’s global ambition of achieving £1trillion in exports by 2020.

While based in the British Embassy, Qatar, the position will report to and support the Regional Manager for Qatar, Bahrain, Iran and Kuwait.  The office is part of a growing network of Invest Northern Ireland International Business Offices in the India, Middle East and Africa territory, which is regionally headquartered in the British Embassy Dubai.  Current offices are based in Dubai, Doha and Jeddah with new offices also planned in 2017 for Johannesburg and Mumbai/New Delhi 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparing reports to the Regional HQ on outputs and finance.
  • Providing Northern Ireland companies with the information and support required to make informed business decisions and achieve success in Qatar, Bahrain, Iran and Kuwait.
  • Assisting the wider IMEA Invest NI team and HQ colleagues in Belfast and globally, as required, by handling market research enquiries, coordinating events, recording business interactions, providing tailored reports and identifying business opportunities for Northern Ireland companies.
  • Maintaining records of our contact with customers on our global Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Updating our key contact database to be used for invites to events.
  • Providing administrative support for the Invest NI team members.
  • Undertaking any other duties as required by Invest NI.
  • Briefing Northern Ireland businesses and responding to enquiries. Initiating, planning and delivering events and visits.
  • Overseeing support for visiting trade missions. Providing logistical support on VIP visits.

Essential:

  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Strong IT computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office and conducting internet searches.
  • Good presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to initiate and maintain a wide range of working relationships.
  • Previous experience in a customer facing role.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ideally, some knowledge of the Qatar business environment.
  • The ability to work quickly, reliably and proactively with attention to detail and limited supervision.

Desirable:

  • Arabic language skills. 
  • Experience of organising events and customer databases.
  • Experience of working in a large team and of working in the GCC.

Working hours and Remuneration:

This position is available for an immediate start, and is offered on a part time [0.6 FTE] “NON-SPONSORED” basis, with a starting salary of QR 5,940 plus a transport allowance of QR 480 per month, paid in arrears. The contract will be a 2 Year Fixed term contract.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Embassy working hours are 7.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and 7.30am to 1.30 p.m. on Thursday.  Exact hours of working can be flexible and are to be agreed with the successful candidate and the Hiring Manager.  Please note that this position will sometimes involve out of hours commitment (networking events, receptions, and seminars) and travel within the GCC and to the United Kingdom for work and training.

The successful candidate will need to commence security clearance procedures through the Embassy. Training and support will be provided to the successful candidate
