Reporting to the Trade Manager, the jobholder will provide support to a team of two, delivering the Malaysian element of the ASEAN Education Trade Campaign, achieving high-value export wins for the UK. This will include working with teams in the wider High Commission, across our ASEAN network and in the UK.

There will be opportunities for travel within Malaysia and, occasionally, in the region and to the UK.

 

Main Duties:

  • Support UK companies to win business in the education sector in Malaysia;
  • Assist line manager in preparing reports, business plans and sector strategies;
  • Assist line manager to  deliver campaigns to promote UK business interests;
  • Update the pipeline of major projects and publish business opportunities; 
  • Identify and share export opportunities;
  • Help to build business networks and relationships;
  • Assist line manager to organise trade missions, visit programmes, seminars/workshops and exhibitions;
  • Record support for UK companies onto a dedicated client management system.

The role will also involve working with partners, including the English regions and the Devolved Administrations in the UK, other Posts in South East Asia and with our DIT Sector Team in London.

 

  • Good IT skills and proficient in Microsoft Ofice applications
  • The successful candidate must also be able to demonstrate strengths in the following key competences:

  • At least 2 years work experience, preferably in the education or related sectors within Malaysia.

  • Taking responsibility to deliver challenging goals and targets;
  • Ability to plan ahead, reassessing priorities as situations change.

  • Ability to establish relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to support delivery of business outcomes;
  • Encouraging collaborative team working within own team and across the wider network.

Seeing the Big Picture:

  • Ability to gather information from a range of relevant sources to inform work;
  • Ability to prepare reports based on market research.

This position is being advertised on a 3-year fixed term contract with an option to extend for a further 2 years.

The British High Commission offers a competitive remuneration package, benefits, a leave entitlement of 20 days per annum.  Specific training and mentoring for the role will be provided for the successful candidate.
