The British Embassy in Dublin is part of a world-wide network, representing UK political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are seeking to recruit a Digital Communication Specialist.

Main purpose of job:

  • The Embassy’s social media channels and website provide external stakeholders with an insight into the important work that we do in and with Ireland, displaying the deep links between the UK and Ireland.
  • This role, sitting within our Communication Team, will be responsible for managing our digital channels: initiating, creating and publishing content.  
  • The role will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Embassy and the wider British diplomatic and civil service network, and with external partners to promote UK-Irish relations. Issues covered will be diverse, reflecting the work of the Embassy and ranging from climate change and culture to current affairs and travel advice.
  • The successful applicant will need to be prepared to work flexibly, with occasional out of hours duties (time off in lieu will be given) and occasional regional and overseas travel.
  • Team members are required to contribute to the wider corporate activities of the Embassy and to support high- level visits as required.  

Roles and responsibilities :

 Social Media

  • Work with Campaigns Manager to prepare digital content plans to support the Embassy’s Communications strategy/Public Diplomacy Plan.
  • Create digital content/assets to support campaigns, activity and events.
  • Collaborate with partners to amplify and promote messaging on UK-Ireland relations and with partners across UK government on centrally run & paid for campaigns.  
  • Evaluate activity and provide insights on how to improve digital channels using analytics tools.
  • Monitor social media accounts for mentions/comments/questions and respond effectively, in consultation with managers and policy leads.
  • Identify and build digital audiences relating to campaigns and policy issues.
  • Collaborate with photographers/videographers on events and provide advice to event leads on digital requirements.
  • Work with the Madrid hub to expand and share knowledge and develop best practice within the Embassy and across the network.

 Website

  • Keep our gov.uk home page current, accurate and interesting, including publishing content.
  • Ensure content meets UK digital standards and format.
  • Support blog creation and content from wider Embassy team.

 Other

  • Work with Media Crisis Manager on digital communications in a crisis.
  • Media monitoring and reporting, including cover for colleagues during absence.
  • Fluency in English both written and spoken (minimum of C2 level for CEFR framework*);
  • Communications-based educational background and/or relevant work experience, particularly in social media.
  • Experience of creating videos and infographics.
  • Local knowledge of the Irish media market.  
  • Communications/Journalism/Marketing degree.
  • Irish language would be desirable.

The successful candidate will be subject to a six-month probationary period and will be employed on a fixed-term contract basis for two years with the possibility of renewal. The appointment is subject to satisfactory reference and security checks.

All L&D required on FCDO/UK government standards and systems will be provided.
