Main purpose of job

The Department for International Trade (DIT) secures UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment, and championing free trade. The role of the intern will play an integral part in delivering our services to UK security and defence companies. One of the key areas of importance will be in identifying and developing new and existing projects for UK companies, so strong interpersonal skills and an ability to develop relationships will be essential. The work will also involve making arrangements for VIP visits from the UK and Peru.



Roles and responsibilities


This is an exciting role right at the heart of the DIT’s operations in Peru. We are looking for a candidate with an interest in international business/trade. The intern will support the work, activities and tasks related to the objectives and annual targets of the Security & Defence High Value Campaign (HVC). Duties will include research and analysis for completing and updating sector reports and enquiries on equipment, markets, competition; support for market research upon specific UK companies´ request; support for publishing identified export opportunities that could be of interest to UK companies; support for events and activities focused on security & defence in Peru and in the UK.


Much of our work is research based, so an ability to understand client requirements, source accurately and reporting timely is vital.




  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft excel and Advanced knowledge of Microsoft word and Power Point
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Ability to innovate, solve problems, prioritise, organise and manage multiple tasks
  • Committed team player with ability to self-motivate, resilience, and autonomy
  • Excellent research and report writing skills in English
  • Valid Peruvian carnet or DNI
  • Suggested careers related to business (but not restricted to: Business Administration, International Business, Economics, Industrial Engineering 

The internship offers an excellent opportunity to experience real life interaction with UK customers looking to do business in Peru. UK companies´ interest in Peru is growing and this position offers an opportunity to develop relationships, commercial abilities and research & analytical skills in preparation for a career in business.
