The British Embassy Dubai has a vacancy for a Graphic Designer under the Department for International Trade (DIT), for a fixed-term contract of one (1) year with a possibility of extension.

The UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) has overall responsibility for promoting UK trade across the world and attracting foreign investment to our economy.

We are looking for a Graphic Designer to produce digital and print creative solutions for all our communication and marketing activity at DIT.

You will report into the Regional Head of Communication and Marketing based at the British Embassy Dubai. Functionally, you will sit within a team of global graphic designers based all over the world.

Working within DIT’s Global Design Network, you will help to produce eye-catching content and provide creative solutions to explain complex departmental achievements and trade statistics in an accessible way for businesses and the public.

The Design Network is led from HQ in London providing in-house design support to our staff around the world. This team provides coverage across the world and is supported by an outsourced agency. The team helps colleagues across the Department and around the world to help shape, manage, and deliver joined-up marketing that achieves business objectives and meets the needs of our customers (internal and external).  

 

You must be a design professional with excellent design skills and the ability to work on a number of simultaneous design projects. To be successful in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge of graphic design, styles, and layout techniques.

You should have experience executing projects in English and Arabic from conception to production, including social media assets, animations, brochures, large format printing, and out of home. You will ensure the Department and our suite of brands are delivered to a high standard when working to tight deadlines.

You will be a problem solver who can work under pressure. As well as executing commissions, you will also apply excellent design principles to our communication and marketing objectives.

You will understand and stay up-to-date with industry standards, tools, and trends. You will be confident in presenting your concepts to others and be able to give clear advice to others regarding design. You will have an understanding of our audiences and their needs and an awareness of the rapidly changing nature of social media and how to put that to good use.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage design projects from conception to delivery in English and Arabic.
  • Design original pieces including illustrations, infographics, and animations, and generate creative ideas to portray concepts.
  • Ensure high quality design output.
  • Refine images, fonts and layouts using graphic Adobe Creative Cloud software.
  • Apply excellent design principles to briefs.
  • Work on local language adaptation of assets.
  • Advise colleagues on best design practice, and ensure it always promotes the reputation of the Department and suite of GREAT brands.
  • Maintain brand consistency throughout all projects.
  • Ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry standards, tools and trends.

  • Proven work experience as a Graphic Designer or similar role and with a portfolio of completed design projects in English and Arabic.
  • Hands-on experience and knowledge of the following Adobe Creative Cloud applications: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Animate, Acrobat Pro.
  • Strong aesthetic skills with the ability to combine various colours, fonts, and layouts. Attention to visual details.
  • Dynamic communicator with excellent oral and written skills in English and Arabic; particularly able to assimilate complex information and explain it concisely.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work at all levels internally and with external contacts, and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Ability to multitask and deliver the highest quality communications products. Ability to work at pace to hit the ground running.
  • Good organisational skills. Ability to respond quickly and flexibly to meet multiple and changing priorities.
  • Collaborative, confident, thoughtful, and authoritative, able to maintain sound judgement even under pressure.
  • Maintains an up to date on the rapidly changing nature of communications and how to put that to good use, especially digital and social media.
  • Curious, creative, keen to explore new techniques and tools, and to try new approaches.
  • Strong IT computer skills and in using MS Office applications (in particular Word and PowerPoint).

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: 25 days of annual leave per annum, on-site parking, on-site swimming pool, gym, and sports facilities.

Salary is at AED 16,492 per month.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Standard working hours are from 07:30 to 15:06, including a lunch break of 36 minutes, from Sunday to Thursday. The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these may also be dictated by operational needs.

Successful candidates will be required to transfer their visa under the Embassy's sponsorship.

Process:
