The main purpose of the job is to support the British Consul General Melbourne in the proactive planning and delivery of his activities, engaging with stakeholders and working with the wider Consulate and UK in Australia teams to boost the profile of the UK and deliver meaningful activity in South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria (SA TAS and VIC) to deliver UK objectives.


Roles and Responsibilities include -

  • Proactive planning for Consul-General and wider UK team engagement in SA TAS and VIC across the spectrum of activity and interests, in consultation with Consul-General, UK team colleagues and other key stakeholders, including monitoring of outside events/opportunities and prioritisation
  • Lead responsibility for planning and delivering Consulate events, on and off-site
  • Routine office management responsibilities, including diary management/sharing diary details with team and ensuring advance preparation, visitor programme preparation, travel bookings, contact database management etc.
  • Managing the on-going workplace learning programme
  • Office workplace health and safety focal point
  • Strong evidence of proactive thinking, planing and delivery
  • English language proficiency, spoken and written
  • Relevant administrative skills or office management experience
  • Some knowledge in event management
  • Proficiency in all key Microsoft applications
  • Experience of working and delivering results in busy office environment

Salary is at AU$ 62,473 per annum (paid out monthly), calculated pro-rata, plus 11% superannuation.

Initial appointment is for two years. The formal job description may be subject to amendment in the future.

Appointment is subject to an AFP records check and UK security clearance.

Open to Australian citizens and permanent residents in Australia.

Staff recruited locally by the British High Commission and its Consulates is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Australian employment law.

The British Government supports flexible working practices. Interstate applicants will be required to meet their own travel and relocation expenses.
