Main purpose of job:

Support the Country Head and Director of West India to drive Inward Investment from India to Scotland. Play a key role in lead generation for the following sectors - Life Sciences/Pharma, Technology & Advanced Engineering, Global Business Services and Tourism. What is required are strong skills for prospecting and developing the FDI pipeline aimed at successfully supporting the identification and development of leads.

Manage the operational and administrative duties for the Mumbai office. Provide administrative support for the Country Head and Director West India.

Delivery of this aspect of the post holder’s role will be to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders including partners such as the UK Government’s Department for International Trade and intermediaries.


The post holder will support in building a strong inward investment pipeline through effective prospecting and lead generation in the Life Sciences/Pharma, Technology & Advanced Engineering, Global Business Services and Tourism sectors. The job holder will also support the engagement of conglomerates in Western India. This will involve supporting the respective sectors in India on projects at all stages in the consultative sales process, including:

- Customer engagement: we adopt a “consultative” sales model and the post holder will be expected to have a strong sales understanding, support the Country Head & Director West India for securing engagements with senior decision makers.

- Prospecting: Develop and deliver a prospecting plan for FDI prospects.

- Support the Mumbai team by providing market intelligence on potential FDI prospects


The post holder will be responsible for managing travel, correspondence and arranging appointments for the Country Head and the Director West India.


The post holder will achieve the successful delivery of a range of customer and stakeholder missions and visits to and from the market. Support on the operational planning, activity and delivery of ministerial and senior management visits to India.


Much of our results are achieved through collaborative working and the post holder will achieve outstanding relationships with partners and stakeholders to deliver this. The job holder will be required to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with key partner organisations, including DIT throughout India, local industry bodies/trade associations, as well as key Scottish partners to support collaborative delivery.


The job holder will be responsible for the effective management of operational and administrative duties of SDI’s office in Mumbai, ensuring full compliance in conjunction with SDI (and Scottish Enterprise) and FCO policies.


The job holder will be responsible for keeping accurate expenditure records and assisting with budget management and reporting. Handling all finance, payments and supplier relationships.


The job holder will have to ensure best practice use of CRM and adhere to compliance with all SDI policies, particularly on health & safety and travel & expenses.


Essential on arrival:

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in international trade or economic development would be preferable
  • Demonstrable excellent communication skills and strong research oriented skills required for successful lead generation
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to travel throughout India
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with a high level of confidence and competence in influencing potential leads for successful
  • Ability to problem solve and work well under pressure to tight deadlines in a highly challenging and demanding environment

Level of language required: Expert

  • Highly efficient, self motivated and well organised candidate having excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • An understanding of economic development in a global context

SALARY PACKAGE

For British High Commission (BHC) candidates, the Local Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC candidates, salary will be ­­­­­­INR 54,038 per month together with a 12% provident fund and 6% Superannuation Fund/ Special Allowance.

Additionally the BHC offers a great benefits package that includes annual domiciliary medical cover, plus a Group Hospitalisation Scheme with Rs 500,000 floater cover for your immediate family.
