The British Embassies in Abu Dhabi and Dubai have two (2) vacancies for a Corporate Services Officer, Human Resources, on a fixed term contract of two (2) years.

The jobholder will be responsible for human resources, learning and development (L&D), and performance management support at post.  The jobholder will closely work with the Corporate Services Manager (CSM), Regional HR Hub, International Academy (IA), Community Liaison Officer (CLO), and local authorities to ensure effective delivery of this role.

Whilst the role may be based in either Abu Dhabi or Dubai, the jobholder may be required to visit the Embassy in the other Emirate, subject to COVID-19 restrictions and to operational needs.


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Review and maintain Country Based Staff (CBS) terms and conditions of service in line with central guidance and ensure policies at post are compliant with local employment law and global minimum standards working closely with the Regional HR Hub and Honorary Legal Advisor (HLA).
  • Advise, guide, and manage all local disciplinary, misconduct procedures, and bullying, harassment and discrimination (BHD) issues, working closely with the Regional HR Hub.
  • Act as local performance management champion, manage performance management process for CBS, including leading on the process of appraisal moderation in co-ordination with the moderation panel.
  • Review benefits, allowances, and exceptions on a bi-annual basis to ensure compliance and value for money.
  • Manage local payroll, pension, and insurance schemes, including contract management, annual reviews, and mandatory submissions, and provide data and support for local pay processes.
  • Manage local recruitment processes, including interim personnel pool and internships, working closely with the Regional HR Hub. Oversee specifications, criteria and approvals, run local adverts, convene and manage panel logistics.
  • Own, review, and update on-boarding, induction, and exit processes and documents, ensuring they are up to date and tailored to local needs.
  • Ensure all HR processes at Post are consistently and fairly implemented at all times in liaison with the relevant stakeholders (Government Relations Office/ Regional HR Hub /Security/ Pay and Benefits).
  • Be the central point of contact for all employee queries and cases related to all HR processes.
  • Own maintenance of personnel records, ensuring compliance with data protection and privacy legislation.
  • Organise and execute the Corporate Services Induction for New Joiners (CBS, UK Based Staff and spouses) along with other colleagues within Corporate Services and Post Security teams. This includes ensuring stock of new arrivals gift bags and having them ready for Induction timings.
  • Support and coordinate the delivery of the L&D offerings at Post as part of the L&D Committee, in coordination with key stakeholders internally and externally within the agreed budgets and framework.
  • Manage and cascade all Corporate Communications in relation to HR matters (Employee Engagement Surveys, Wellness Initiatives, Appraisals, and Learning and Development Offers); maintain all HR content on Post shared sites.
  • Support other members of the team as required and perform other related duties as required and assigned.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any response to a crisis.

Eligibility:

  • Applications will only be considered from those who are currently residing in the UAE and with a current and valid UAE resident visa. Applicants will be asked to provide evidence of their UAE resident visa/ Emirates ID as part of their application.
  • Applicants must be available in a full-time capacity.
  • Applicants must be able to obtain a valid UAE police clearance certificate.
  • Previous HR experience, either in the public or in private sector.
  • Holds a formal HR qualification or currently studying towards recognised HR qualification (i.e., CIPD or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of UAE labour law and its application.
  • Previous line management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in an administrative support position, with excellent computer skills and in using MS Office programmes (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and the ability to work flexibly both in a small team and individually. Excellent team working skills, with strong ability to build co-operative working relationships across a large network, including external contacts.
  • Ability to handle confidential employee issues/ information and interact with colleagues and stakeholders in a professional and sensitive manner at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, strong communicator (written and spoken) with an ability to influence at all levels. Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent organisational skills, including ability to organise and prioritise workloads, organise records, meet deadlines and maintain close attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated, results-driven and customer service oriented. Keenly aware of customer requirements and how to drive customer satisfaction.
  • Experience of working with Oracle-based databases.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: 25 days of leave per annum (calculated pro-rata); on-site swimming pool, gym, and sports facilities (subject to COVID-19 restrictions). 

Salary is at AED 11,363 per month.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

The Embassy is open from Monday to Friday, from 07:30 to 18:00. Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week (including breaks), and specific working hours for this role will be confirmed at a later time.

Whilst the role may be based in either Abu Dhabi or Dubai, the jobholder may be required to visit the Embassy in the other Emirate, subject to COVID-19 restrictions and to operational needs. The jobholder should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will also be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evenings/ weekends). Flexible working arrangements may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.

The successful candidate will be required to transfer their visa under the Embassy's sponsorship.
