The UK and Peru signed a Government-to -Government Agreement (G2G) establishing the UK as the lead partner to help the Government of Peru/the Organising Committee COPAL deliver the Lima 2019 Pan American Games (L2019). This ground breaking agreement is the first of its kind, and allows Peru to benefit from our expertise in running major events, while deepening the bilateral trade relationship.

The purpose of the two newly created B3(L) roles at DIT Lima is to maximise the Export Wins for UK companies from L2019, with a stretching high level target of approximately £487 million over two years (£150 million Export Win Target this FY). Working in an exciting and fast paced environment, you will help UK companies compete to win contracts at L2019, including in areas such as infrastructure, design, operations, communications and legacy through the delivery of intensive and targeted support to UK business. You will also help deliver events and missions as part of the L2019 High Value Campaign.

Roles and responsibilities

This is an exciting and dynamic role working as part of a small project team on a very high profile project, with lots of scope for creativity and innovation. As one of two in-market Business Development Managers working on L2019, you will leverage the maximum amount of business for UK plc by managing and developing a pipeline of business opportunities for each phase of this project. You will work across DIT to target and account manage a portfolio of UK companies, providing advice and support to companies interested in competing for L2019. You will be based within the British Embassy, and report to the Director of Trade Peru and her Deputy.

You will be suited these positions if you are a self starter with strong communication skills. You will need excellent organisational skills, and you will need to maintain a clear focus on our challenging Export Win targets (£150 this FY, and an estimated £450 million for duration of the project). A willingness to be flexible and get involved in a wide range of tasks is essential, as is the ability to be proactive and create opportunities. DIT and the Embassy prioritise collaboration and cross team working, and you will need to be a flexible team player who works well with a diverse range of people and also can work under pressure.

You must have an eye for detail and be able to work without constant supervision. You need to be able to analyse and process lots of information quickly and act upon it, referring and reporting up the chain as necessary.

The ability to establish quickly relations of trust with UK companies, colleagues and with key senior contacts in Peru is a must. The successful candidate will quickly establish themselves as authoritative and credible inside and outside the mission. Peru can be a challenging market, and you will need patience, perseverance and resilience. You will need to be confident in your dealings with senior contacts in business and government in Peru and the UK. You will also need to keep abreast of local market and economic issues, and be willing to take the initiative to seize opportunities and resolve problems.

Main Duties:

-          Responsible for customer account management of UK companies and expansion of Lima2019 opportunities to new   customers, using local knowledge and contacts to facilitate quick and constructive engagement in market;

-          Managing a pipeline of business opportunities with the aim of converting these into contract wins for the UK;

-          Building strong relationships with COPAL (the buyer) and other key players in infrastructure/sports sector in Peru;

-          Supporting UK companies through the tender process;

-          Helping to deliver the HVC strategy  to ensure Export Win targets are met (trade missions, high level visits etc);

-          Helping maintain and update Games related data and information (eg HVC Opportunity Pipeline, company databases etc)

 


Essential on arrival:

Internal vacancy. Applicant must be a current employee of the British Embassy in Peru.

Applicants should ideally have some previous experience of supporting business, and a good understanding of the Peruvian economy/market, although this is not essential. More important is a passion to help UK companies to succeed, a desire to excel, and a strong focus on impact/results.
