Length of Contract: 1 year(Karachi based post)

Main purpose of job:  To help the UK achieve its export targets in a way that supports long term trading relationships, inclusive growth and longer term economic development in Pakistan. As a key member of the UK Trade and Investment Team in Pakistan, you will help to develop and deliver our business and trade policy plans. You will also build a strong and extensive relationship network to promote credible, export ready UK companies to achieve more business in this exciting and growing market.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

Your key areas of focus will be on a) developing and implementing “Higher Value” campaigns in the UK’s priority sectors for Pakistan; and b) managing “Volume” enquiries to support UK SMEs already exporting to Pakistan or keen to explore opportunities here. You will:

  1. Contribute to the analysis of key market sectors in Pakistan, assessing the UK’s comparative advantage.
  2. Support the development of Higher Value campaign plans in priority sectors.
  3. Establish and maintaining long term relationships with key stakeholders, locally and internationally.
  4. Support the Pakistan Trade Team to deliver the full range of its work, including high quality briefings, visits, events and business planning material.
  5. Work closely with colleagues across the UK Government to contribute to Prosperity Fund bids for longer term activities to improve the business environment in Pakistan.
  6. Perform an important communication role, liaising with government departments, chambers of commerce, associations and local companies to share information about recent developments and inform UK companies of opportunities.
  7. Need to be flexible and able to multi-task effectively. This will be a busy job and a positive, can-do approach is essential.
  • Strong track record of being an effective team player.
  • Detailed understanding of the Pakistan business environment.
  • Previous experience of trade/commercial work.
  • Excellent analytical and drafting skills

The UK International Trade Team in Pakistan is part of one of the UK’s biggest mission in the world. Working in this team will provide valuable experience of how different departments work together across boundaries and across different locations in Pakistan and in the UK.
