Main purpose of job


The job holder will be primarily responsible for two key workstreams:
(1) Promotion, recruitment and administration of the UK’s Chevening Scholarship programme
(2) Provide support to the delivery of the Post’s science and innovation (S&I) objectives

Key objectives will be:
(1) to liaise with the Chevening Secretariat in the UK to manage the annual selection process, attract a strong field of applicants, and increase engagement and impact through the local Alumni association;
(2) to build the UK’s engagement with Hong Kong on science and innovation in line with FCO priorities


Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

• Together with another job-shared holder, manage the UK Chevening scholarships in Hong Kong, leading on recruitment of new scholars, organising events, publicity, and engagement with the alumni network.

• Maintain and develop Chevening website content and oversee networking on social media, including Twitter, Facebook, and Chevening Connect.

• Support the S&I lead at the Post in developing and delivering the Post’s S&I strategy which includes climate change, health/anti-microbial resistance and other identified priority theme(s). It may include developing and maintaining a network of contacts in Hong Kong and the region, coordination with relevant internal stakeholders, stakeholders engagement to promote partnership, identifying funding opportunities and project development and management, and conducting small scale research.


Essential on arrival:


  • Well organised and able to plan and organise resources to deliver objectives;
  • Track record of problem solving ability and sound judgement;
  • Self starter: ability to work independently and confident in making decisions;
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; excellent spoken and written English;
  • Team player: ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Must have the appropriate residence status or a valid working visa in Hong Kong.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge/ experience of UK government policies and priorities;
  • Education background/experience in science and technology; 
  • Experience of working with digital media;
  • Cantonese speaker – useful but not needed.
