Main purpose of job:

You will work as part of the DIT Defence and Security Exports (DSE) team, supporting the Senior Trade Officer in her role and working alongside colleagues from the British Defence Liaison Service and others in the High Commission and across the DIT Network to contribute to the delivery and success of the Defence and Security Trade and Investment campaign.

 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

 

Liaise with key stakeholders to identify and monitor current and planned procurement opportunities in the Defence and Security Sector

 

Identify possible in market industry partners

 

Conduct market research for UK Companies

 

Research and prepare reports, sector overviews and visit briefs

 

Monitor business trends and developments in Canada and the UK

 

Plan, organise and execute various overseas activity for UK companies such as visit programmes, networking events and product briefings and or launches

 

Assist Canadian companies to source UK goods and services through business opportunities

 

Develop a network of contacts within the sector, (business, government, and public service)

 

Maintain and update accurate records including but not limited to interactions and service delivery on a CRM

 

Represent DIT and the British High Commission at events, trade shows and conferences across Canada and in the UK

 

Essential on arrival:

 

Knowledge and understanding of one or all of (i) Canadian Military (ii) Canadian Defence & Security sector (Policing/Intelligence/ Public Safety/Cybersecurity) (iii) Canadian Government

 

Knowledge and understanding of Government procurement processes for the Defence and Security sectors, prior experience with Government procurement would be advantageous

 

Business development experience and knowledge of the Canadian commercial sector with at least 2-3 years first hand experience

 

Experience of co-ordinating and managing events

 

Possess strong, professional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels of representation within the government, military and commercial sector

 

Be a proactive self starter, able to work independently whilst remaining a positive team player

 

Ability to deal with a range of competing priorities in a calm, efficient and professional manner

 

Proficient in MS Office Applications

Desirable:

 

The successful candidate will be asked to contribute to both the Defence and Security portfolio of work, but will be focussed on continuing the development of our Security portfolio offering. Therefore an understanding of and experience in this sector would be beneficial.

 

Previous experience working in the Defence and Security Sector

 

Degree / Masters or equivalent business qualification in a relevant Defence / Security / Business area of study

 

Existing network within the Defence and Security environment (UK and or Canadian)

 

Ability to communicate in French

 

Valid Security Clearance
