Internship

The British Embassy in Madrid is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking to recruit an Intern for the Department for International Trade (DIT). 

The intern selected will have the chance to join a multinational/multicultural environment that will allow him/her to learn and get excellent experience in the Department for International Trade. He/she will work in a mainly administrative and support role with many opportunities to work in areas such as event management, relationship with UK and Spanish companies, business reporting and social media communications. This is a good opportunity to put into practice and broaden his/her business and communication skills.

This role will be divided in two main areas:

GENERAL SUPPORT

The intern will provide support to Officers/areas that do not have access to specific support resource i.e. Country Director, Trade Policy Officer and Operations Support Coordinator, he/she will also act as a floating resource in any other areas/sectors as required. Main duties will be:

  • administrative support
  • project support
  • event organisation
  • VIP visits
  • stakeholder management
  • market research
  • updating DIT’s CRM system (Datahub)
  • etc.

COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT 

The intern should help to implement DIT Social Media Strategy aligned with Spain Country Trade Plan –developed by teams in Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao, and with the regional priorities: post-TCA, Clean Growth and Tech campaigns. The candidate should be able to give support in:

  • developing suite of content: videos, twitter cards, pdf;
  • publishing on DIT social media channels;
  • evaluation metrics against campaigns.
  • Full professional proficiency in English and Spanish, including excellent writing skills (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
  • High level of motivation and willingness to learn;
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative when required;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point);
  • Ability to look for information about a company or sector on the Internet and obtain information by phone;
  • Able to work under pressure and to juggle competing deadlines;
  • Good knowledge of content marketing, social media marketing, mainly twitter and LinkedIn, and monitoring and analysis of results.
Currently studying a degree related to business and marketing/comms.

This is a full-time and temporary internship contract up to 12 months (provided both parties agree and there is a valid agreement with the university throughout the whole period).

Normal working hours are 25 per week.

The successful candidate is subject to a confirmation of a background check, security clearance and the successful completion of a probationary period.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Spanish Social Security Scheme and will therefore not be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy based on gross annual salary.

The Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with tax exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Employees are fully responsible for payment of income tax at the legally required rate. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Spain are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Spanish employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Spain and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
