Global Issues Team

Main purpose of job:

To support the Global Issues Policy Teams in the Embassy covering Smart Cities (Digitalisation), Climate Change & Energy and Anti-Corruption, Rule of Law & Competition, to deliver the British Government’s overall objectives in Mexico.

Roles and responsibilities:

*Competition, Digitalisation and Skills for work (55 %):

  • Provide relevant and timely policy updates for reporting domestically and to London.
  • Assist the C4 Competition/Transparency Officer in developing and follow up of the Industry  4.0, Big Data/Open Data and Digital Economy Strategy of the Embassy to assure that they are included and in line with UK opportunities and priorities:
    - Research of global strategies.
    - Follow up London’s priorities on this area.
    - Follow up of local strategies on these issues, identifying UK opportunities.
    - Follow up of federal agencies strategies on these issues.
    - Legislative follow up and engagement.
    - Report of meetings.
  • Represent the Embassy in relevant digitalisation meetings.
  • Liaise with London on digitalisation strategies, including but not limited to the Prosperity Fund.
  • Contribute to increase and enhance our digitalisation stakeholders network.
  • Provide policy support to programme and DIT teams.
  • Support Future Cities VT

 

*Anticorruption, Transparency and Open Government (25 %)

  • Follow up of local strategies on these issues.
  • Legislative follow up and engagement.
  • Stakeholders engagement & communication strategy.
  • Support in organising and coordinating Embassy events.
  • Report of events.
  • Support Business Environment VT.

 

*Communications & Admin support (20 %)

  • Ensure coordination of Global Issues work across the Embassy.
  • Lead on policy comms (Future Cities, Digitalization and Climate & Energy) and work with PCT and Programme team for joint communication of impacts.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders to implement policy communication strategies (including but not limited to digital economy and green finance).
  • Provide administrative and logistic support to Global Issues Policy Teams (Smart Cities, Anti-Corruption, Rule of Law & Competition and Climate Change & Energy). Act as office manager, coordinating stationery and other logistic requirements.  

All employees in the Embassy network are expected, as part of their job to contribute towards the corporate activity organisation

  • At least Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Have a good understanding and interest in key national & international policy issues and diplomacy.
  • Have excellent communication skills relating to relationship building both internally and externally to the British Embassy.
  • Have an understanding of Global Issues relating to Smart Cities, Climate Change, Energy and Transparency/Competition
  • Should be a proactive and creative self-starter with strong interpersonal skills who has the ability to learn quickly. 
  • Must be willing to work in constantly changing multicultural environments.
  • Experience in managing budgets and finances is desirable
