The British Embassy in Amman is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Programme Assistant.

Purpose of the job:

This is an important entry-level position helping to deliver the UK Government’s Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF).  Based in the Embassy’s CSSF Team, your finance and office support will enable the implementation of programmes totalling around £30m per year.  You will also support the Syria Programme (around 25% of the job).

Main Responsibilities:

  • Professional management of programme and project finances, including paying invoices, budget scrutiny, accurate forecasts, and investigating and solving problems
  • High quality administrative support to the CSSF Team including coordinating meetings, transport, and logistics; managing correspondence and information; managing team budgets
  • Logistical support to programme delivery e.g. managing visiting missions to Jordan; liaising with the Jordanian authorities
  • Two-way Arabic/English translation and interpretation, sometimes with senior Jordanian officials
  • Internal and external communications for the CSSF, and the opportunity to work on other aspects of programme delivery such as monitoring and evaluation
  • Respond flexibly and actively to evolving priorities and needs.

Essential:

  • Fluent oral and written English and Arabic
  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum one year’s experience in a finance and/or office support role
  • Experience of two-way translating and interpreting between English and Arabic
  • Candidates should be organised and able to work in a diverse, high-performing environment
  • Proven ability to take responsibility for own work, with a track record as a team player
  • Literacy in Microsoft Office packages.

Desirable:

  •  Experience working in a programme management or international context.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The position is full-time, at 37 hours a week with considerations of flexibility depending on circumstances.

Pay is on the Embassy A2 (L) scale, starting at JOD 1075 per month depending on the candidate’s skills and experience. The package includes a good level of health insurance and a friendly, English-speaking work environment. We offer opportunities to develop professional skills through our Learning & Development offer, including opportunities to travel outside Jordan. Leave entitlement is 21 days plus 14 public holidays.
