The British Embassy, Israel has vacancy for an Arab Sector Manager - UK Israel Tech Hub, Grade – B3 (L).

Overview of the role:

An excellent opportunity for an experienced, highly-motivated individual to join the innovative UK Israel Tech Hub (UKITH), in a management position to work alongside the UKITH’s team in Tel Aviv. The UKITH helps drive economic growth by creating partnerships in which British companies help Israeli innovation go global, and Israeli innovation gives British companies a global competitive edge. 

Over the past 5 years, the UKITH has built numerous dedicated programmes to engage with the emerging Arab tech sector in Israel, including an accelerator programme, hackathons and our bespoke Go Global programme. In 2018 the UKITH launched a first if its kind website, the Arabtech Port, which consolidates all the content and collaborations accumulated within the UKITH work so far.

The Arab Sector Manager will assume primary responsibility for the Arabtech Port website (https://arabtechport.com/) launched by the UK Israel Tech Hub in November 2018 with a goal to provide Arab entrepreneurs a platform to Learn, Connect and Go Global. The website includes the first of its kind Arab start-ups database, online video library, news updates, events and more.

The manager will be responsible for identifying strategic partnership opportunities and contacts, initiating and organising activities and platforms for collaboration and community building, recruiting and convening an advisory board bi-annually, and delivering results for mutually beneficial links between Arab entrepreneurs and British companies. The Arab Sector Manager will work as part of a team of 10, mainly based at the British Embassy in Tel Aviv, including counterparts in the UK to promote commercial outcomes. This is a full-time or part-time position according to candidate availability, reporting to the Director of the Hub and to the Arabtech Port Founder and Chairperson, based in London. This job will be based in the Embassy in Tel Aviv at least 2 days per week, remaining days would have an emphasis on fieldwork and community outreach, mainly in North Israel.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the Hub’s work in the Arab-Israeli tech sector, delivering on an ambitious strategy and further developing it with focus on Arabtech Port website, identifying new strategic partnerships and pursuing business opportunities to accelerate entrepreneurship in the Arab sector locally and in the UK.
  • Maintain and further expand on existing network within the Arabtech ecosystem in Israel to drive the arabtechport brand forward and act as a facilitator of the website’s platform for future contributors. Organise offline tech events and meetups to serve Arabtech Port vision
  • Build and maintain sector expertise and a network of contacts with relevant decision makers, companies, entrepreneurs, experts and investors in the UK and potentially with third countries.
  • Initiate, plan and execute a monthly and annual content plan for Arabtech Port website in collaboration with entrepreneurs, investors, experts, content creators and more. These include podcasts, videos, articles, events, blogs and startup profiles.
  • Full responsibility for delivering a social media plan for Arabtech Port including preparing engaging daily posts (FB, LinkedIn) in Arabic and English ensuring that target audiences are being reached with the right content.
  • Manage a Project budget and maintain it on a monthly and annual basis, produce budget reports internally as well as to external funding partners.

Essential:

  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic. Basic operational knowledge of Hebrew – a must.
  • BA required, MA or higher preferred. Preferably in economics or business or technology fields.
  • More than 3 years of experience working in business development, digital marketing, consulting, finance, project management
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in project management, including budget management.
  • Fluency in Social media and experience in social media marketing or community management - strongly preferred.
  • String presentation skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent IT skills, including the ability to quickly learn new programmes

Desirable:

  • Bringing a relevant personal business network from Israel and internationally– a strong plus.
  • Experience organising events – a strong plus.
  • International experience (working or studying) – a strong plus.
  • A self-starter attitude; initiative and creativity, “out of the box” thinking.
  • A positive, energetic, optimistic attitude, and not afraid to roll up your sleeves
  • Excellent team player, able to interact cross-functionally and remotely at different levels and adept to the cultural nuances between different audiences within different cultures within Israel and in the UK.
  • Strong business acumen and organisational skills.
  • Highly motivated, passionate about innovation and technology.
  • Open and clear communicator, excellent networking skills including across cultures.
  • A track record of success and demonstrated ability to deliver results.
  • Enthusiasm to work as part of a small, agile, ambitious team – a “start-up within government”.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to peripheral parts of the country and occasionally to the UK.

Working Hours and Remuneration: 

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including the non-negotiable salary of NIS 11,509 per month plus social benefits (for the full time position).  The initial contract will be for one year, with a four-month probationary period.  Parking facilities are not provided or paid for by the embassy.

This vacancy is Full Time, however there is an option of offering this position on an 80% Part-Time basis where the salary and benefits will be pro-rated accordingly.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00-16:00 and Friday 8:00-13:30, flexibility will be required including evening events, some travel locally and occasional travel to the UK.
