The United Kingdom Mission to the United Nations in Geneva represents the interests and policies of the UK at the UN and is recruiting a highly motivated Team Assistant to provide administrative and organisational support to the Human Rights Team, including ensuring effective planning and support for UN meetings, management of documents and official correspondence, and arranging programmes for visiting Ministers and officials to human rights related meetings.

Main responsibilities will include:

Organisation and administration

  • Information management, including overseeing receipt and responses to all human rights-related official communications, and maintaining a contacts database;

  • Provide logistical support for meetings, such as room bookings for meetings and side events at the UN and the UK Mission;

  • File management, including of delegation packs for HRC sessions and of statements for the HRC and the UPR;

  • Assist the Head of the Team with managing the team budget;

  • Project Management support;

  • Other administrative and planning tasks as needed, e.g. annual leave coordination.

Visits and events support

  • Act as the Team’s visits officer for human rights related visits including managing programmes, logistics and UN accreditation;
  • Organise events and receptions for the Human Rights Team.

Meeting support

  • Assist with note taking and reporting from plenary meetings of the Human Rights Council (10 weeks per year), and plenary and NGO meetings relating to the Universal Periodic review (6+ weeks per year).

  • Fluency in English (both oral and written);
  • 2 years of working experience in a support/administrative role;
  • Experience managing and organising information and documents;
  • Strong administration and organisational skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Experience of working in a team.
  • Relevant education or practical training;
  • Multilateral/international experience, including from Geneva, would be an advantage;
  • Working level in French;
  • Full driving licence.

This is a full-time position, for a fixed-term contract of 2 years.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.

Staff recruited locally by the UK Mission in Geneva are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Swiss employment law.
