The British High Commission in Bandar Seri Begawan is recruiting the position of Executive Assistant. We are looking for a person with strong interpersonal skills, who wants to be at the heart of supporting the British High Commission deliver its goals. 

The main purpose of this job will be to provide administrative support to the High Commissioner, and Deputy High Commissioner, and to help co-ordinate work across the Mission.  Core duties will include arranging appointments, managing diaries, drafting letters, and responding to email and telephone enquiries.

We are looking for someone who can take the initiative, is persistent and patient in achieving goals, and is willing to be agile in supporting other staff.   Close working with the Social Secretary will be a vital part of this role.

The jobholder also has crosscutting responsibility to coordinate and promote our One Team agenda including learning and development for all British High Commission staff.  Maintain a forward look for activities across the Mission, including staff travel requirements.

Roles and responsibilities:

Managing the High Commissioner’s and Deputy High Commissioner’s diary, transport, and liaising with government agencies. Producing official communications between the High Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other Diplomatic Missions. Drafting correspondence and setting up visitor programmes. 

Promote learning and development opportunities for all staff, and maintain a rolling agenda of development and teambuilding activities.   Organise sessions for the team and give individual support when needed.

Note taker/Minute taker for Post Management Board Meetings. Greeting and directing visitors to the respective member of staff in accordance with post security arrangements. Answer and direct telephone calls. 

  • 2-3 years experience in an executive assistant or similar role
  • Excellent record management and organisation skills
  • Good knowledge of government procedure and cultural sensitives to establish relationship with local stakeholders
  • Professional speaking and telephone Manner
  • Letter drafting skills
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • IT Literate

  • Excellent Time Management skills
  • Understanding of Brunei government structures

The British High Commission looks to support the professional development of all staff, including the Executive Assistant. Specific training and mentoring for the role will be provided to the successful candidate.
