The British Consulate General in Casablanca invites applications for the position of Trade Advisor for Education and Healthcare, Grade B3 (L) to start as soon as possible.

Main purpose of the job: 

This position will help British companies to win business in Morocco, especially in the education and healthcare sectors helping to deliver the Department for International Trade (DIT) Regional Trade Plan for Africa.

The British Consulate General is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic self starter, with excellent commercial awareness, who can work accurately within deadlines and is a strong and collaborative team member.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Increase British exports to (and investment in) Morocco. The primary focus will be on the education and healthcare sectors, but this may change as commercial priorities evolve.  
  • Planning and delivering targeted campaigns in these sectors, including the organisation of business missions, PR and media campaigns to increase the demand for UK goods and services in Morocco;
  • Identifying and generating trade and investment opportunities, providing British companies with professional advice and high-quality market analysis, facilitating introductions and providing other support required for those companies to enter the Moroccan market and win contracts.  
  • With the rest of the DIT team, you will contribute to agreeing and meeting business plan targets and for ensuring services are charged for, where applicable.
  • Assisting the pan African Trade Services Unit in providing high quality market research and organising visit programmes and events to introduce UK companies to the Moroccan market;
  • Promoting, where relevant, the financing products offered by UK Export Finance, the British government’s Export Credit Agency, to support British companies win contracts;
  • Stakeholder engagement: Create and maintain a strong network of business and public sector leaders in the sectors for which you are responsible and use this network to further UK business interests, including through arranging and attending meetings, and business missions both to the UK and to Morocco.   Attend seminars, receptions and other events in Morocco, the region and the UK, as required.
  • Report contact with UK companies and monitor/record follow up activity though DIT systems, working with the DIT Country Director to ensure targets are met. Ensure all export opportunities in sectors the job holder is responsible for are captured and advertised to British businesses.
  • Support the work of the DIT team, including through ad-hoc translation and interpreting, maintaining trade statistics, assisting British (and, where relevant, Moroccan) companies with visa enquiries, budget management, business planning finances and inputting management information.  Lead on responses to DIT parliamentary questions, Ministerial correspondence and public enquiries.
  • Work closely with other UK government departments both in Morocco and in the UK, including but not limited to the Economics, Defence, Projects, Political Teams in the Embassy and British Council. Provide advice and guidance to those colleagues on trade, investment and trade policy issues, ensuring that delivery of commercial opportunities is complementary to the UK’s political and programme objectives.
  • Work closely with the Trade Policy Officer to identify issues faced by British investors active in Morocco in the sectors you are responsible for and develop and implement clear strategies to resolve them;
  • Contribute flexibly and fully to the work of the DIT Africa Team, sharing successful campaign approaches with other DIT teams in relevant markets across Africa

  • Graduate with a university degree in a relevant subject (e.g. business, economics, international relations, etc.)
  • 3 years recent experience in the education sector. Computer literate, working with Microsoft Windows and able to manage information effectively
  • Excellent communication skills and experience of public presentations and interacting with senior executives or public officials
  • Experience in written policy advice, briefings/analysis
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines and managing uncertainty and competing priorities to achieve objectives
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • An existing network of Moroccan and British business stakeholders, preferably in an education or professional services context
  • Experience of the healthcare sector
  • Experience working with other cultures in Africa, MENA or elsewhere

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The Consulate aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: gross salary of MAD 22,230 per month, inclusive of all allowances. The contract will be a full time, permanent. 

Conditioned working hours for the position are 38 hours per week Monday to Friday.
